ABC Network goes dark for NYC area cable...

The battle between cablevision and ABCNetwork has heated up further, as the NYC area cable company took the step of pulling the network from it's service Saturday night in the battle over retransmission-consent fees. Funny enough, the move happened amidst the networks rerun of the tv show Lost. How apropos is that.

Anyone think that they will come to terms before tonight's red carpet Oscar gala, or will the NYC area cable viewers be shut out?

Just download it.

These fuckers want to be stupid then everyone just download the shit you are missing.

I still say we are only two or so years away from seeing an end to TV as an entertainment medium, to be fully replaced with direct access internet provided media from the content providers.

The internet has really killed the provider middlemen.

This just continues to show that networks or cable providers simply do not care. What bunch of idiots take it out on the customer? These idiots. The same thing was about to happen here in Ohio with Time Warner and FOX, and it was for the same issue as the NYC case, but at the last minute a negotiation was reached. Neither the network or the cable company really cares about the customer to any appreciable degree beyond their wallets. If that were the case, cable prices would be half of what they are, and networks wouldn't be stupid enough to overcharge their retransmission fees to the cable company.

These rate hikes are necessary; the head Executive needs the money to buy a new Posche (his old one got a flat tire).

I watch shows online anyway...since my tv is broken...but I don't live in NYC.

I think two years is a bit too soon, judging by last year's DTV switch. We found out just how many people were totally clueless and reliant on their TVs.

I see this as being a generational thing, as the elderly will cling to their TVs and the younger generations will slowly adapt to a more internet related model.

Good thing Comcast bought NBC.

I heard it was back on tonight though.

so glad I have Comcast (and that's the first and last time I'll say THAT).

I wonder how many Nielsen families were in that area. Perhaps ABC didn't want to see a ratings hit for the Oscars that helped move them a little.

Or maybe it's a public relations nightmare for the cable company, with their customers trapped helplessly in the middle?

I'm pretty sure alot of Cablevision subscribers whiched cable providers, I know I will.

Enough is enough, last month they pulled the Food & Home Networks and we still had to pay for it.
