ABC Family Cancels Kyle XY

ABC has made my list...

Kyle XY will not return for a 4th season, after its 10 episode 3rd season ends. The blame for the axing is the drop of ratings, which fell to 1.5 million on the 3rd season debut. The show was once the highest rated show in ABC Family history.

So does ABC want to know why the show has tanked while others do better like Greek and Lincoln Heights, which are returning...

* The highest viewership levels were during summer airings but it was then moved to a fall move, then now a January move.

* Lets put a Cable family show on the same night as IDOL (biggest family show on TV), 24, House

* Massive gaps between season 2+3 with little ad's.

* No repeats on ABC Family like during season 1+2.

Seriously ABC get your act together :shifty: and lovely, another show with no ENDING.

I'm not really surprised. I've long felt they were trying to kill it.

I was hoping for a final 7 episode season to get to the 50 episode mark. ABC should of kept it, as a summer show these type of cable channels get slaughtered during non summer time.

I'm amazed how this went from a huge hit to canceled so fast. I think they should have given it a few more episodes to end the series off well. Oh well the show became a huge mess anyways.

That's too bad -- I really enjoyed the first two seasons. But yeah, it does seem like the network didn't care enough to treat it right. Those breaks between the seasons were insanely long.

On the subject of this show, do any of my fellow Canadians know if its 3rd season will be airing here at some point, and on which network? Space showed the first two seasons, but I heard they will not be doing the same for the 3rd. I remember A Channel sometimes aired episodes -- is there a chance they could do so for Season 3?

Jax, ABC has shown many times recently that they don't know how to manage a schedule worth a rat's ass. Pretty much everything you described could also apply to Pushing Daisies and the way they treated it...

Damn their eyes.

Seriously, you have a good summary of why ratings eroded. If I didn't actively seek out when the show was coming back, I'd never know.

They've not really served the show itself well lately. Amanda is just irritating and should be blown out an airlock (oops, wrong series). They don't seem to know what to do with Latnok either. It's been kind of irritating.

I agree Dru, if this came out sooner in the show I would have cared more, but as it is now, I don't care as much. The show has been grinding it's wheels in the sand, and doesn't seem to know where it wants to go. Plus the bad guys seem to get more powerful each season, and no clear plan is know.

Now that it is canceled I'll just stop watching, the last few episodes have been getting on my nerves anyways. i think it's clear ABC Family wanted the show canceled, no reruns, no real ads, when their other shows do.

I heard the show would of tied up and ended in the 4th season so its a real shame and I still don't see why ABC couldn't bring it back for a shorter order.

I don't watch this show but it sounds like once again, bad mismanagement has tanked another show.

It's the usual. They take a good, highly rated show. Instead of rewarding that show by letting it stay in its time slot, they use it friviously to pair it with a new, albeit crappier show in an attempt to raise the crappier's shows rating.

What happens says you?

Both shows tank, lol.

Nice job network exec.

ABC piss me off, and that extends to ABC Family. Seems that just like the parent network they have their favourites which they'll support to the hilt, and then their bastard children that they won't lift a finger to help, such as Boston Legal.

Wow that sucks. I just into the show in the past week, starting from the beginning. Just about finishing the last episode of the second season, i found out it is being canceled. If i knew it was going to be canceled, i wouldn't of bother. Now i really like the show. So not cool. Sad thing is, i dont really care if it ends, just want a decent ending, not a cliffhanger.

I don't think that is anywhere close to being true, they don't seem to have nay clear end game.

Season 3 was also supposed to have at least 20 episodes I think, but the useless writer's strike really strewed that up.

I'm still pissed USA couldn't have given The 4400 a 6 part miniseries to end the show, you could feel we were close to the end, Kyle Xy doesn't have that feeling.

I'm a little irritated to hear it's been canceled without a resolution. I've been watching since it premiered.

But, there has been a noticeable decline as the show has gone on. This mythology the writers are trying to build is just coming off as blah. The show worked best when Kyle was new to the world and discovering new things about everyday life. That naiveté was the show's charm, in my opinion.
