A visual depiction of something I've not seen before...

That's... quite large. I don't know man, even the 28' seems big to me. I can understand the urge to stay as close to source as possible but hey, you might be able to incorporate bays on the side to store shuttles like the Kelvinprise. Judging from the looks, you have the space for that...

Well, I may look into something like side storage racks for shuttles, but I'm not going to do that here, because this project is about just scaling those shuttles, and scaling the Enterprise into which they must fit. Once I finish modeling my Enterprise, I'll tackle a version of her that I call "The Practical Enterprise", complete with real airlocks, manual overrides, an overall updated look that reminds us that OSHA will probably still exist in the 23rd century. :)

You know, I wondered what the hangar of the TOS Enterprise would look like with as many F type shuttles as I could reasonably fit in there.

So, because cloning a shuttle in a modern 3D program is kid's play, and I already have an Enterprise that I'm trying to flesh out and detail faithfully, here is the first of my renders:

For those curious about such things, I am a proponent of a 1080 foot long Enterprise length, and I used Warped9's 28 foot length for the F type.

I know that shot from the animated series looks impressive and jaw-dropping, but I think that everyone who has been trying to harmonize all the data from the different canon sources has concluded that we have to treat this one as an outlier.

Thanks, though, for the image. it does make me smile. :)

Okay, today I've scaled the shuttlecraft up to 32" (to allow for the full-scale interior set as built), and scaled up the Enterprise herself until she matches the scale of the "TMoST" sketch vertically. Once done, I realized as many have before me, that the depth of that sketch takes into account a forced perspective model they were planning to build for the production. So, I realized that I couldn't take literally the depth that was pictured in that sketch. Once done, we do have a shuttle bay that comfortably fits 6 of the Type F's at 32".

We also have an Enterprise that's 1479.66 feet long.

As far as the hangar being so huge, why can't it have been designed for any number of ships, some much larger and taller than the shuttlecraft?

I can live with that.

Same here. That's what a shuttlebay should look like to be useful.

How long would the TOS Ent be to fit all that?
