A very confused Enterprise concept

This is a much better attempt at an update then what the JJ people came up with. Much more faithful to the original shape but still with an entirely original design. Good work! :techman:

Wow that is awesome!
Like the general curvaceousness of the total design.
Like the way you extended the impulse engine "thingy" up to the bridge.
Love the nacelles and your idea about the static parts with the high-energy plasma stuff happening.

So is the dome covering the sensor/deflector going to be transparent or opaque? Or are you planning on some sort of variable opacity depending on the task being performed at the time?
Do you plan on TMP-esque glow along the sides of the nacelles?
Are the torpedo launcher location pre- or post- refit?

Again, outstanding job! Let's see some more of her!

LOVE this design... much more than the actual XI ship. I think this feels much more cohesive than the new ship, and in many ways, while very different, more keeping the Classic TOS ship, perhaps due to the Jefferies influence? I really like using a clear cover over the deflector dish... that feels very retro and like a logical precursor to the TOS E.

My one critique is that the grill on the outboard side of the engine feel a bit misplaced, and I can't decide if it's because of where it meets the curve of the cowling over the bussard collector or the grill itself.

Overall, great, and I'd love to see more views!! :rommie:

I love this. Very slick looking, yet the nacelle caps really sell it as a 'vintage' starfleet ship. The shape of the secondary hull, and the way the way the deflector cover (which is also very cool) flows into it, is beautiful. I'm not as keen on the saucer as I am with the rest of it, but at least you've tied it into the aesthetic of the rest, something I feel like the new filmakers neglected to do.

My only concern would be that the nacelle struts might encrouch a bit much on the shuttlebay area, if you're the sort who feels that these things need a decent amount of internal support. But visually, this ship looks great!

I like it, very good homages to the different designers.

Pherhaps the refit design for the new Enterprise.

:bolian:

Rough ortho side-view at this point...an amalgamation of too many styles...:) Basically everything (Jefferies, Probert, ILM, Church....).

Started out as a "simplicity" design study, then, influenced by sceen caps and revealed stuff, modified to...this. (yeah, very curvey and stylized)....

The things I wanted to keep were the domed deflector cover feature, and the rear "kink" in the neck of Jefferies original proposal design. Good location for a rear torpedo launcher. (Actually not a bad place for the impulse engine housing)...
Some of the windows are rather crudely roughed in, at this point.

 Now that is what I call a starship! I love it, judexavier! You have outdone yourself, imho.

More! :)

Love this new design, can't wait to see more.

But could I ask a favor? Could you recreate the bussard turbine from this image: http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg178/judexavier/STXINCC-1701Side-Front03FLAT.jpg?t=1228643758

But this time, have it be a greyer color, make it slightly back-lit with a whitish blue color like this: http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/4858/trektrailercap12st8.jpg
and exclude the vertical metal covering.

Pretty please... I need it for a model texture and of course I'll give credit.

Well, I didn't intend to bump this, but for some reason I couldn't send a PM to you,
Johnnymuffintop, sorry. (Probably something I wasn't doing right:)
Anyway...I did this earlier today,

http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg178/judexavier/turbineworkcopy.jpg

then re-read your post, and realized it was all wrong...oh well. So, what you need is just the center/blade part, with no nacelle body or glass domes, with that electric glow around.

Technically it isn't a bump, you just were showing off more of your confused Enterprise Concept. lol

But yeah, I needed one exacly like that but without the glass dome and with straight on lighing. (with some slight blue backlighting). The diameter of the bussard itself should be 400 pixels: http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/93/demomg3.png

If you don't want to bump, just email me it: johnnymuffintop@gmail.com
There is something else I wish to discuss as well.

Son of a gun. Literally.

There are a lot more things right about this design than what I've seen of the new big-screen model thus far -- it takes the same ideas the 1701-XI's designers had, but executes them better. It doesn't look squashed from the bottom in; it's balanced. It maintains the character of the primary hull, while toning her down, giving her a more demure, cooler, serene look. The more slender nacelles still have the '50s style "torpedo" headlight look, but much more in proportion with the rest of the vessel. And the deflector stays in its recessed position, without looking like a Milky Way bar that's been squeezed out of its jacket from the back.

It's not so much that the 1701-XI (for lack of a better shorthand phrase) doesn't have some good ideas. It's just after letting them sit for awhile, I've come to the conclusion they're unrefined. They haven't gelled completely. They were inspired in the act of change for the sake of change; your version of them, however, takes the extra step and makes it appear to the eye as though they're there for a purpose. They're all the same ideas, including reversing the sweep angles on the primary hull support pylon, except now the mind's eye accepts them in their new place rather than wrestles with repositioning them to where it would rather they go.

I'll also add my voice to the others in saying that this is my favorite re-think rendering of the original Enterprise since Vektor's.

I've reread this thread, and wow, thanks, everyone for the positive feedback.:)

I'm working on the other views, and just installed the freebie MS/Truespace, so maybe some real modeling may happen at some distant point in the future:)

*Waits for Forbin to kitbash one out of some leftover parts and the 3D artists on the board to recreate one in CGI.*

judexavier, I was just checking through my old subscriptions and was wondering if you ever took this any further?
