A Two Dimensional Creature Cannot Exsist

I suggest you read Flatland: A Romance in Many Dimensions by Edwin Abbott. He makes it seem possible in that novella.

Why do you say it couldn't have a digestive tract? There are three dimentional creatures that essentially have a two-way digestive system where waste goes out the same hole food goes in. That is, of course, assuming theoretical two dimensional creatures even need a digestive tract.

i don't think the digestive tract is the problem here. Isn't the problem that if it has length and width, but no depth, it doesn't actually exist? Having a VERY SMALL 3rd dimension is one thing, but if it's 2D, it doesn't exist at all when viewed from one angle.

Am i missing something?

The fact that we as three dimensional beings cannot percieve or have any
frame of reference for a two dimensional world or point of view.

They can and probably do exist, we just literaly... can't imagine it.

A Two Dimensional Creature Cannot Exist

Think about it.

It couldn't have a digestive tract!

Four-dimensional creatures think the same about you. :vulcan:

I'd argue that we ARE fourth dimensional creatures -that anything that exists is one- since the fourth dimension is time and we all live, exist in, and move through time.

And I don't see how lacking an existence in time would preclude one's ability to have a digestive tract. ;)

No, no... Four spatial dimensions. Hyper-creatures. :vulcan:

All I remember was when that Sphere visited, and the Square's wife thought he must have another Woman (line) in the house.

And the bit about the creature in Pointland who was convinced he was God since nothing else existed in his universe.

This thread is making my brain hurt in the same way that it did when I tried to imagine what a hypercube looks like when it's folded up... but only half as much.

If a two-dimensional creature had a digestive tract, it wouldn't be two-dimensional for long.

Flatland was one of the books I had to study in grade 11 which was more than 30 years ago. I don't think I have read it since then.

A Two-Dimension Creature cannot exist ? I strongly disagree.

Edit - Damn it, Locutus made virtually the same joke as I was typing this.

^^^ That's payback for that time that you beat with that joke about that thing in that topic about that subject.
