a TREK mulligan

In Golf, when you are playing with other civilized players, everyone gets a mulligan; a do over if you will. In the spirit of the masters, what do-over would you, if you could, take when considering STAR TREK.

Not killing Spock? Letting Picard be saved from the Borg? Making NEMESIS in the first place (wink wink)..

What would be your STAR TREK mulligan?

Rob

I better get this in quick, before all the "don't make Enterprise" and "keep Dukat as a good guy" posts get going (wink wink).

Personally, if I had one thing to do differently it would be....

The Tellarites. I would have introduced them FAR earlier on Enterprise, and given them at least as much screentime as the Andorians received. In fact, I probably would have introduced both races in the pilot episode and given them substantial screentime throughout the series.

This was supposed to be a show about the founding of the Federation, yet two of the four founding races barely appear. The Andorians only appear in fifteen episodes :wtf: and the Tellarites only appear in nine :wtf::wtf: (and of those nine, they're little more than background decoration in six of them :wtf::wtf::wtf:).

I would not have done the PON-FAR scene in TREKIII. I wanted Savik to be Spock's daughter...soap opera'ish' to be sure, but that kind of stuff I like. And women love that stuff too...

Only one thing?
Hmmm. Perhaps it would be to let TOS stay on the air to finish the 5-year mission. With appropriate limitations: it has to remain as good as the first two seasons on average, and can't be allowed to devolve into something terrible (or more terrible, if you'd prefer).

That would surely cause ripples that would spread outwards, but I think it is unlikely to undo the movies or TNG, although TMP might have been noticeably different.

I would like to have seen more about Space-born creatures such as "Junior" and The Crystalline Entity.

Maybe the mulligan could have been to introduce the Crystalline Entity to be wandering a certain sector of space and not the puppet of Lore.

Take back the last episode of TOS. The idea of "a woman does not have the stuff to be captain" goes against everything people think Trek stands for.

Generations. I'd rather not know what Kirk got up to at all then have that film be the answer!

It would have been great if in TOS, they had done the "Joanna" episode about McCoy's daughter (instead of the space hippies episode it devolved into). Imagine McCoy as dad, dealing with his daughter being involved with his best friend.

Destroying the Enterprise-D in Generations.

Or, failing that, I would write the Borg Queen completely out of First Contact and give all of her (slightly modified) dialog to the "collective voice" of the Borg. There's nothing quite so creepy about an android being seduced by a geshtalt.

^^ Man, that is a mulligan I would PAY to see happen. I believe the creation of the queen utterly ruined the Borg.

I blame the nanoprobes. Assimilation was a lot more horrifying when it was a slow process that one would be conscious of the whole time. Has the whole "operating without anesthetic" vibe, and ... it's torture.
"POOF: you're a Borg" robs the process of its horror.

But I agree, a queen-less First Contact would have been better, and I would love to see that "I wasn't the Director but this is my Director's Cut" DVD.

I'd get rid of the Doctor on Voyager. Before I get killed, I like RObert Picardo very much. I'd just have him play a doctor who is medically gifted, but just has no sense of how to deal with people. Perhaps a researcher who was on the ship, but was the only medical officer not killed. I just always had a problem with holgraphic sentience, outside of Red Dwarf.
