A touch of reality

can you think of a scene from Star trek (s) where reality, meaning the world of when the show was made, intruded too much?

For me? Its WHERE NO MAN HAS GONE BEFORE. Oh, its a great episode...dont get me wrong. But there is a scene, maybe its from The Cage, but there is a scene where they show Kirk (or pike) heading somewhere in a hurry, and then as they move out of the scene, we see a couple. The man is wearing a striped shirt found at most clothing stores, and sandals as I recall. And the woman was in some swimming outfit straight out of the 60s.

What about you? Is there a scene that does that too you? Takes you out of the future and reminds you this is a show made in our time?

Sure, but that's usually a budget thing, and I can really think of it happening in TOS. I'm sure I had that feeling with TNG, but nothing specific is coming to mind.

It couldnt be said then, but now? The use of computers, even TNG, seems so passe. I mean, in 1987, when Picard went to his desk and that computer was there I thought..wow..that is so cool. But now? Our applications of computers, and how they are used, doesn't seem to far from what they do. I hope, three-hundred years from now, we have progressed far beyond where TNG was, in that area.

McCoy's civilian costume in TMP looked a whole lot like a lesuire suit to me, complete with big ol' gold necklace. Very 1978 to me!

As long as we're talking about passe fashion... David Marcus' tying of the sweater around his neck.

The hippy episode of TOS, which is also one of the worst episodes of TV ever made.

Also, any and all of the many Let's get on a soapbox to promote a liberal viewpoint and bash a non-liberal viewpoint about current issues in modern Trek.

They do that on trek??? no way......!!!! (wink wink)

Data saying "Lock and load!" in INS.
I doubt even Data had the time to study the acting carreer of Jean-Claude Van Dam.
Or the inclination to.
Or that the rest of the crew would understand the reference.
Or if it wasn't a reference to some dumb 20th century movie, why Data was acting like such an ass...

Didnt TOS start that? It like a Trek tradition, why change it now?

Where can I get this "modern Trek" that bashes current issues? Been forever since I saw a new Trek TV show.

It is out of place (and one of those cheesy lines that seem to litter INS), but the phrase "Lock and load" is relatively common (at least in my neck of the woods) and was used before Van Dam was around.

That was so 1982! The sad part is I used to dress like that back then.
What can I say? The yuppie look was in and the girls loved it.;)

Ummm..keep this a secret....shhhhhhh....(so did I) Girls loved that look back then!!!...

Rob

I tried taking it a step further and tied my socks around my ankles.

Didn't go over well.
