A thought about the Kelvin's registry

The original Constellation wasn't a model as such. (Definitely not the kind of model that was used for the Enterprise.) AFAIK, it was basically a cheap plastic toy. Something like that could be quite easily kitbashed, especially since they never ended up using it again.

Erm, no, it was an AMT Enterprise model, hurridedly damaged and redressed to be the Constellation in the week's time they had to get the VFX for the episode filmed. It was a cheap model, yes, but it was not a toy by any stretch of the imagination.

Still, though, they could have kitbashed the hell out of it and come out ahead, since I can only guess they never planned on using the thing again.

The remastering could also have fixed the problem. Either change the ship itself to make it obviously a different class, or alter its registry number.

In my happy place, the Constellation would have been NCC-1017. She just wouldn't have looked anything like Kirk's ship. We have far too few starships designs in TOS even after the recent redoing of visual effects...

True indeed but I can ignore a number a lot easier than a ship's shape. Your happy place must have the advanced decorating options. :rommie:

You're forgetting the times. The idea of franchise building, and doing all that's neccesary to make sure that happens (such as internal consistancy in a series, and what not), really wouldn't exist until The Empire Strikes Back. It's honestly amazing that Star Trek was as good about it as it was.

I'm a little surprised that they kept the Constellation so similar. I wouldn't have changed her lines, really, but made her a Cage-style ship, or something otherwise obviously older.
