A Singular Destiny (spoilers)

Ferd Burfel

Lieutenant Commander

So I didn't see another thread (and if I missed it, a thousand pardons) but I wanted to talk a little bit about it.

Anyone else love this book? This is now the third such book by KRAD that I completely love (the others being Art of the Impossible and Articles of the Federation).

I'm a big fan of these books because I like to see the "behind the scenes" of Star Trek. The ships, aliens, fighting and all that are great and epic, but books like this paint the overall picture of what is going on. It sets up so much for going forward and offers great moments that would otherwise not make it into a book. I West Wing in Star Trek stories are great IMO. And the logs, notes, letters and such between chapters really helps fill out the events from Destiny. Of course we all read it and understood the scope of the tens of billions of deaths, but sometimes a simple one page letter or note REALLY smacks you over the head with it. This was that smack. It was a book that was one part history texbook, Star Trek novel, political drama and news story.

I really hope we get to see more books like this, because I'm a big fan of them. We get these great series and crossovers and then we get KRAD to swoop in and set it all back up for us going forward, which really shows you that the entire writing team is very, very good. So keep 'em coming guys and gals, and I'll buy every last one.

^Agreed. KRAD's "state of trek" books have been some of the best trek-books that pocket has ever published. A Time for War, A Time for Peace, Articles of the Federation, A Singular Destiny, and Art of the Impossible all have tons of characters, locations, alien species, political situations, and a certain "je ne se quois" that ties all of primeverse together in a non-fanwanky kind of way. Like how Vaughan and Ian Troi knew each other(and Dax too!) in AotI, which tied into TNG and the DS9-R, and all of that took place during a conflict that was talked about in the DS9 tv series. Garak was also there, albeit working for the Obsidian Order...

Here's hoping that KRAD remains the go-to writer when it comes to these style of trek books. I'll be there for sure :D

This was that smack.
This is my new favorite comment ever.

Seriously, Fred, thank you so very much for the kind words. ASD was a joy to write, and it's nice to see that it's resonating with people. And putting it on the same level as The Art of the Impossible and Articles of the Federation is particularly flattering, as I consider the latter two to be two of my strongest novels ever (Trek or otherwise).

Like how Vaughan and Ian Troi knew each other(and Dax too!) in AotI,
Credit where it's due: with both those things, I was building on what was already established in Avatar and The Battle of Betazed.

Again, thanks!

I wish your books like ASD and AOTF would be listed in all the relevant release schedules.

I almost read it before Losing the Peace but after a long hiatus from here, I came back just to make sure I was reading the right book in the correct order. KRAD, yours is next. Then the latest Titan book and then I go back in time to relive the days of Data.
