A Show Set In The 25th Century

I do like the idea of setting a new series further in the future, specifically, the 25th century. You could set it exactly 400 years in the future, say, 2412 if it debuts in 2012 -- something about setting it at a round number from now appeals to me. I'd also be happy setting it in the year 2525 (homage to that song). I also like the idea of them exploring another galaxy rather than the Milky Way. While I know several of you object to that idea, claiming it would be too much like VOY, they don't have to be lost in another galaxy.

However, due to the popularity of the J.J. Abrams movie, any new series will most likely be tied to the new 23rd century universe. I can see a movie setting up a spin-off myself, with a starship like the new "Enterprise-class" (for lack of a better word) seen in the film, and with this new captain being a pivotal guest star in such a movie.

My own pet idea would be an immediate prequel with Pike as the lead, as well as other new characters aboard a precursor starship to Enterprise. Perhaps one or two of those characters could be related to Scotty (his father) or Chekov (his mother). We know Pike is a legend even in the Abramsverse, but he didn't command Enterprise for very long, and it's doubtful he commanded a previous Enterprise. Although they did the same thing with Kirk & Picard, so it's not out of the realm of possibility.

Touche. However, my definition of "animated" means a cartoon, so that's the examples I used.

So is mine...

I'm talking about the Clone Wars cartoon that came out on Cartoon Network between the release of Episode 2 and Episode 3. It was done by the same animation crew that created Samurai Jack...

I rather enjoyed it...

Sorry, thought you were referring to the new CGI show.

Check out the Clone Wars animated cartoon, if you haven't already. Once you get your mind past the art (which is straight out of Dexter's Laboratory), you'll find it is considerably more serious (meaning a lesser amount of intentional humor) than the Clone Wars CGI...

One scene I remember was when Mace Windu wound up without his lightsaber and surrounded by a platoon of droid soldiers. He used his Force Telekinesis to separate one of the droid soldiers into its individual component parts, then used the assorted droid parts to make attacks on the other droids that would impress Magneto. The scene was meant to be serious, but I found it pretty damn amusing the first time I saw it...

Instead of going back to the 22nd like in Enterprise go forward and be in the 25th, and w'll go with the USS Enterprise, USS-1701 F or G?

All of these future century designations are meaningless poohbah - they're all pretty much alike.

The new Trek movie effectively reboots the continuity - from now on producers can decide what they want any Trek "era" to be and design their shows/movies according to their tastes - with the studio's approval, of course.
