A shitty Trek soap opera?

10 or 13 episodes of big-budget, expertly crafted prestige television is great and all, but how about some cheap stuff they can bang out year-round on CBS-AA? Days of Our Lives in outer space. It'll suck, but it'll be a glorious kind of suck.

Or it'll devalue the brand and kill Star Trek, but whatever.

How many stay home house wives are Trekkies? If it’s large enough numbers that will watch every day it may work. But budget has to be dirt cheap, makeup has to be easy and quick to apply, writing doesn’t even have to be good (hey they can borrow Discovery writers, rimshot :D)

The first generation of hardcore Trek fans were women! They were behind most of the fanzines and letter writing campaigns.

Instead of expensive Pixmondo doing their CG, the ship shots can be rendered in real-time in a modern space adventure game engine like Elite Dangerous or similar. Bang it out in a day. That stuff looks amazing.

I would watch a not-shitty trek soap opera. Isn't that almost what the serialized nature is anyway?

Daily adventures, weeks-long arcs about how the chief engineer is banging the captain's wife on the sly. Cheapo aliens which are just people with Trill spots or whatever. They've got a Reg Barclay social anxiety type who posts lots anonymously on the ship's social media but never looks up from his console on shifts. The doctor is hooked on Ketracel White but nobody knows yet. The ships' counsellor is pregnant from one of her clients. It could be 3 officers! All hell breaks loose when they beam down to a survey mission on Vasquez Rocks planet and the captain and engineer come to fisticuffs.

Shut up and take my money!

A 'The CW' Star Trek, maybe taking place at Starfleet Academy, and following the day to day lives of cadets juggling career plans, training, and complicated love lives. It could be set during any era of Trek history, but personally I'd tap into the raw nostalgia and fondness for The Wrath of Khan and it's Cadet-hijinks and set it somewhere around that period.

Actually, the Mirror Universe always feels like kind of a soap opera to me. Trek has visited it so many times, why not make a series out of it? Star Trek: The Mirror Universe would definitely fit the criteria for having all the wild twists & turns one could possibly handle in a space soap opera.

Get Brenda Dickson (Jill Abbott, The Young and the Restless early 1980's) scheming and murdering to put her son or daughter on the throne in place of whatever character succeeded Georgiou.

I always liked Kelli Maroney on Ryan's Hope in early 80's. Bring her in. Star Trek could use some Kelli Maroney.

In all seriousness one thing I liked about my Mom's soaps was how multi-generational they were. I want at least one Trek show on at all times using older Trek actors along with new younger ones. I want Jeri Ryan back fulltime along with Patrick Stuart. Star Trek Picard is a start on this direction that I welcome.

But yeah a soap in the Mirror Universe. Got to have Prime Lorca trapped in there trying to get home and spreading some Prime Universe Starfleet goodness to those in need.
