A Shelter for Spoiler-Dodgers

Hello comrades,

I've noticed a lot of spoiler threads, both in Trek Lit and of course Trek XI, and it's making me nervous of tiptoeing round the minefield of topics that want to tell me what is happening.

Checking on spoilers used to be almost like an addiction for me, but now that new Trek is in short supply these days, I'm trying to hold onto as much excitement as I can.

I recently waded into a thread and found out pretty much everything that happens in some of the later DS9-relaunch books, and I've tried unlearning it. I have since found this is nigh on impossible, and it's a good sign I should've read the books when they came out over 5 years ago.

SO! I'm creating this thread (which I'm hoping is in the right forum) so like-minded souls who are desperate to avoid the spoilers can huddle together for warmth.

Are there any kindred spirits out there trying to avoid knowledge of the future? How are you managing to avoid finding out what's on the horizon? And just how difficult are you finding it?

Can we band together and stay spoiler free til May? Can we RISE TO THE CHALLENGE?! (Hmm, not bad for a first attempt at motivational speaking... I have a very rousing speech about how I watched a gazelle being born and it avoided spoilers in order to lead a full and happy life, but I'll only use it as a last resort)

Yeah, I'd rather not have spoilers on the movie, myself.

I've spoiled a lot of the recent DS9 relaunch, though--because I haven't liked where the plot was going in the most recent books I did read, to really care about keeping the surprise.

But as for the movie, I'd rather judge for myself, and it seems that a lot of people are making a rush to judgment one way or the other (which seems to be where a lot of the spoilers are coming from).

It's pretty tough to stay free of spoilers, though--not all threads are marked as such and it's even worse when people put spoilers right in their sigs, avatars, and thread titles.

Ideally, discussion of the new movie should go in the forum for that movie, so all of GTD will be a spoiler-free haven (unless the threads are clearly marked). Since I'm trying to avoid spoilers too (even though I have to read every thread in this forum), I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who post spoilers without a warning or placing it in code

You can't go wrong with a bit of furious anger

It was a bit of a misguided idea for a thread I suppose - I was just trying to gauge how many of us are considering living in a cave on Mars. With our eyes shut. And our fingers in our ears.

And then we could all live together in silent ignorant bliss. So far, the Experiment has not gone well. I should've gone with that radioactive avocado torpedo idea instead :(

On another note - I watched the trailer last night... I'm wondering if that technically makes me a hypocrite :shifty:
