Hell yes! That sums it up, really.

With serial shows like Doctor Who, it would be neat to have special occasion or weekend marathons. A retro channel could begin by going live with an entire week of classic Who and I'm certain they'd get viewers.

What bugs me most is the good classic stuff is on cable nowhere, unlike modern hohum sf that's everywhere. Ok, it's not even hard core, but the Ghost Whisperer is on THREE channels on Monday nights. You can't give one of those nights back to TNG? coughsyfycough.

Yeah I wouldn't mind seeing some Classic Dr. Who just to see what all the fuss was about. And I totally agree with Ghost Whisperer... I mean that's on waaaaay too much. And look at SyFy they're airing HOURS worth of Caprica every other day. I wish I had a physical tv guide so I could just see exactly how many hours they played the pilot and rebirth in the past two weeks. Hell I watched it all AGAIN this evening - missed the new ep, but I ain't worried, they'll probably marathon it again next week anyway.

Now tell me why in the hells can't they just air more Trek or other Sci-Fi stuff before Caprica? At this point people are going to get burned out and bored on it before its had a chance. Whatever happened to 1 or 2 showings a week and that was it until rerun time?

Yeah there's a broadcast network here that airs TNG at a whopping 2 a.m.! And no TOS, either. These series, are however, famous and readily available yes, but what about the shows that aren't necessarily available on DVD and hulu or are out of print or haven't been restored? They need some love.

I think the twilight zone would be worth doing in HD.
In 2004 the Twilight Zone collection was telecined from the original camera negatives (just like TOS-R) to HD.
The Blu-ray will be released in April 2010.

As i said earlier only a few select scifi classic shows are worth the ROI to remaster from film to HD for future syndication. A retro scifi channel would be standard definition by default.

I was watching a fan-edit of scenes from the Doctor Who episode "Rememberance of the Daleks" on Youtube and you know I could see Syfy or other channels experimenting with redoing classic shows in 16:9. I know that would mean cropping the original material but I could see them trying that. I'm generally opposed to non-OAR stuff but I have to admit I would tune in just to see what some of the "Special Edition" of old classics would be like.

Looks like Space 1999 has already been aired that way in the UK:
