A Quick and Dirty Cut-N-Paste!

Albertese

Hello!

I had a couple hours to kill and I was inspired by all the cut and paste kitbash pics I've seen lately. It occured to me that I had never actually made anything using Vance's toolkit, so I figured, what the heck? Sounds like a lark...

So behold! I present the U.S.S. Asher, a light cruiser from the turn of the 24th C.

The neck area is my own work and I modified all the other parts except the nacelles. (that is, not counting the addition of the registry as a modification.)

The gray area behind the bridge is meant to be a sunken landing area for the bridge docking port to make it accessible even though the bridge is sunk into the hull.

Anyhow, this was a fun way to wile away an evening. I see why Ian Keldon does so many of these... they're fun!

You have to admit that it looks an awful lot like the Enterprise though. It's very tough to be truly original with this sort of stuff. Handy for generating ideas though, I like the sunken docking bay idea and I've always liked the shorter neck profiles.

I'd guess it's about half the size of a connie. And I'm of the opinion that, just like how boats and airplanes all look more or less alike, in a real world (i.e. not one where you have to consider if the audience will readily be able to tell the ships apart) spaceships will look more or less alike as well.

Here, I knocked this out pretty quick to demonstrate the difference in size.

But anyhow, I don't take it too seriously. I think there are more than enough Starfleet cruiser designs out there and I don't really need to contribute more to them. I just did this to pass some time, not to be taken too seriously. If I were really trying to contribute something to the fandom, I would work on more civilian or utilitarian designs. Starfleet cut and paste ships are over represented and I just wanted to do a vaguely artistic, fairly simple project for an evening. But it was fun doing it and I like the design I wound up with.

Funny- I like it more as a smaller ship. Seeing it next to the E made me appreciate it more. Has a Nova Class feel to it.

Agreed with the statement regarding planes.

Very cool. One little change I'd make is to replace the shuttlebay doors with something more like the Reliant. One smaller door as opposed to an Enterprise type. Not much room in there for a full shuttlebay anyways.

Nice to see something that looks related but not a simple rearrangement of parts.

I like the torpedo placement--back where it belongs. Now One thing you might try is a single tube with two Reliant type 'megaphasers' turrets peeking out from the lower saucer just above and to either side of a lone semi-recessed torpedo tube. It will look a bit less chunky that way.
