A question to all Jets/Giants fans

Mr. Laser Beam

Have you ever used NJ Transit's service to get to the Meadowlands? What did you think of it? (I am on vacation in NYC and so I have no other way of getting there.)

I know they have several different trains leaving NY Penn Station (to be later followed by bus service from Secaucus Junction to Meadowlands). But what about when you *leave* the Meadowlands?

The reason I ask this is because depending on when the games start, I may have to leave early, as I don't want to keep my relatives awake all night waiting to come pick me up at Morris Plains NJT station. And I can't afford a cab.

I went to a game or two there over the years between Giants Stadium and the Continental Airlines Arena. In my experience there is no good way to get there by mass transit. Driving in and out of there is a major pain in the butt as well. Good luck.

I have another question for Jets fans. Well it's more like a plea than a question. Will you PLEASE come and take Herm Edwards back? PLE-ASE, I beg of you.

Unfortunately, it looks like NJT doesn't offer services out of the Meadowlands until the game is over. So unless the teams ever play day games, looks like I'm outta luck. (This is the price I pay, and pay willingly, for staying with relatives when I'm on vacation here: I do not keep them up all night waiting at the train station)

Herm had some good teams when he was in NY. Though it seems like Mangina is pretty well entrenched there now.

Well he's managed to completely destroy the once high flying offense of the Chiefs. Man do they ever suck right now.

Just make sure there is bus service to Secaucus after the game and your will be all set. Late night trains run every hour or so along the Midtown Direct line, so just make sure you read the schedule and know when is the last train. You should be fine though....

That used to be my neck of the woods for 35 years til I moved to CA. I miss the old town alot.

NJT's service to the Meadowlands does include bus service after the game. But that's the problem: They don't start the return trip (out of the Meadowlands and back to Secaucus Junction) *until* after the game. For those who might need to leave early, there's no luck.

Do these teams ever play day games? That'd be the only ones I could ever see.

Are there similar transit issues to and from the Meadowlands when a RBNY game is on?

Oh, and to those living in NJ, what is the transit situation to and from Harrison - the future site of Red Bull Arena - like?

(If I ever get back to visit the Big Apple again, I wouldn't mind going to see a game at either venue - though I guess RBA sounds like it'll be more interesting as a venue than Giants Stadium is at present, in terms of watching an MLS game...)

Believe it or not, I do have a reason for bumping this thread. :) I have new info to add:

NJ Transit is building a new rail station which will, IIRC, be right next to the new Meadowlands. It'll be on the Pascack Valley Line branch. The article on their homepage didn't say what the schedule would be (i.e. how often they will run trains on game days) but this looks to be a big improvement over bus service. :techman:

Pascack Valley?

That's one sneaky little bastard of a toll plaza on the GSP:mad:

The GSP switches from, splits, between E-Z PASS & CASH-TOKENS very slicklike & if you don't notice that soon enough your stuck going through/under the E-Z PASS GRID & getting a 25 greenback fine from Guv Jahn Cores'Eye'Inn:scream::mad:

Well, whenever I'm out there, I only go by train, so I gotta speak to what I know. ;)

(Seriously. If I lived in that area, I'd sell my car. Immediately.)

So would I :techman:

I'll 2nd that!

I only went through PV's rippersnapper toll plaza once last summer en route going to Upstate New York. Once was 25 dollars more than enough:mad:

NJ with their retarded highway signs & nitwitty on-asphalt notifications.:wtf:

The whole NYC-NJ-Phila. Hypermetro Area is just one big lulz tornado:mad:

Nice to visit during non-winter:)

That's it:D

I imagine other supermetro & hypermetro corridors not being much better.

The only thing I'm still unsure about is whether or not NJT will run trains on this new line only *after* the games at Meadowlands are over (that's how they run bus service out of Giants Stadium now), or if they will have a full schedule like on all other branches.

Given that this will be a fully functional NJT station like all the others (they are even planning on riders using it as a Park-And-Ride), I'm guessing that it will be the latter.
