A Question I REALLY Want to Ask Patrick Stewart

AdmiralBruno

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
When he was talking about decisions in one episode, he said something like "Do I take my vacation on Risa, or Corsica?" Now I want to ask him if he was referring to the island of Corsica, or is there a planet named Corsica too?

I wonder if anyone has ever asked. :)

It's a single line he spoke (and was changed) from an episode he shot 20 years ago.

He wouldn't remember.

The original line was "Tahiti". It implies it's the Earth location.

General rule of thumb, if they mention a place you've heard of and then an alien location, the place you've heard of isn't a coincidence.

They'd likely add a "New" or Roman numeral to it to hammer home any SFnal implication. In-universe people don't want to be confused, either.

Exactly. If they changed an obvious Earth location for another obvious Earth location, then changes are it's still an Earth location.

Ah, of course. Sorry, I had a migrane today that makes me slow (even slower) if it comes to thinking.

Maybe they thought that "Corsica" was more appropriate for a french captain (with a strong british accent and a faible for Shakespeare). :D

Same goes for historical figures & events too. They'll mention Hitler, Genghis Khan & some sci-fi dude no one knows, or like in "The Enemy, when Picard says

"Or history may remember Galorndon Core alongside Pearl Harbor, or Station Salem-One"

Which is this case are also places

It's a way of saying "you'll recognize these two, but also... future place/person/event!"

For example:

"Yes! We, too, had men of evil! Leaders who oppressed and hated! Need I remind you of Hitler? Stalin? Kreezorp the Blighted?"

Same goes for historical figures & events too. They'll mention Hitler, Genghis Khan & some sci-fi dude no one knows,

This is an age-old Trek trope. Just a few examples:

From TWOK:

David: Well, don't have kittens. Genesis is going to work. They'll remember you in a breath with Newton, Einstein, Surak...

and from "(TNG) A Matter of Time"

Picard: Yes Professor I know... What if one of those lives I save down there as a child who grows up to be the next Adolf Hitler or Khan Singh? Every first year philosophy student has been asked that question since the earliest wormholes were discovered...
