This has blown up. At the university there were at least two instances of physical attacks by the transgender protesters at the gathering they are talking about somewhere in this discussion.
This talk also has one of the dumbest persons I've seen in a while spewing nonsense and science-denialism: Nicholas-"there is no biological sex"-Matte.
But to make up for that the always great and always on point Theryn Meyer gets to speak her mind.

So, what's this topic about? Because it sure looks like you're just trying to throw out some random comments about transgendered people to rile up people who are paranoid and intolerant about that or to start a heated argument. You don't even have a definitive premise, which is curious for someone who keeps starting threads complaining about people misinterpreting him. You need to clarify what you want to talk about or this thread is getting closed too. Improve the quality of your posting and make better threads, ASAP.

I'm not sitting through an hour of talking heads grossly marginalizing an entire group of people because they can't comprehend that words and definitions change. Instead, I'll post this link:

Do YOU have something against transgendered people? The only comment about a transperson I have made here was in regards to Theryn Meyer.
Also the topic of this should be clear. The freedom of expression and how far we should let law go to limit it.

Indeed why listen to the arguments someone makes when you can act purely on emotion. You don't know what these people are talking about, and you are not interested. That is not how to have a discussion.

Now that sounds like a really exciting discussion in that video. But I guess I will continue to watch Arrow instead.

If a a male person tells me "he's" transgender I will use the female form in future without question. Where's the problem? I know a bunch of transgender people.

Transgender people have a name-change at some point and it's in their passport or driver's licence.

And if a university teacher stil wants to use the other form, that's ridiculous. And that has nothing to do with "free speech", it's plainly ridiculous.

This prof. seems to have some other issues too. Well, back to Arrow...

Arguments based on nonsense do not deserve to be listened to. There are videos where people claim the planet is flat, but most reasonable people won't waste time on them. The people who want to deny rights and basic human decency to transgender people are the ones making arguments based on emotions. They aren't comfortable with the idea that gender can be different from the hat they are used to. It's no different than the people who tried to make arguments against homosexual people. It's not based on facts, it's based on delusions, bigotry and religious nonsense.

He is perfectly happy to call Theryn Meyer she/her. There is no problem for him there. For the two of them, Meyer and Prof. Peterson, the line is drawn at these made-up terms you see floating around all over social-media. Both of them will not use them.

Not one person is denying anyone a basic right. That discussion is not about that.
It is about the issue of freedom of expression or free speech. It is about a law being discussed in Canada that would punish you if you would not "honor" someone's made-up pronouns.

It's not up to you or anyone else to decide which pronouns are "made up". Their "free speech" inflicts actual harm onto people.

It takes zero effort to refer to someone by their preferred pronoun.

This nonsense bit the University of Michigan Ann Arbor on the ass recently, when they gave everyone the option to announce their preferred pronouns so that those can and are expected to be used by everyone on campus, including professors. One student now has to be called "his majesty".

So what?

I know you are but what am I? Seriously? Where did I say anything that would suggest that I have a problem with transgendered people? Get the giant chip off your shoulder and stop causing problems.

That topic as you originally presented it in the OP is far too abstract and vague to be of any use. Relate it to a specific issue from an actual text article and not a long video.

Posters should not have to sit through an hour long video to have an idea of what you want to talk about. You as the OP have a responsibility to set the premise and direction of discussion and to get it started, not just post a video and wait for other people to refute it.

What are we discussing? Whether or not to treat transgender people as human beings? Whether or not to honor their personal choices that harm you in no way whatsoever? Honestly, think about it: By refusing to call someone by their preferred noun, or even their preferred name, you're telling them your opinion trumps their identity. If I told you I was gay, and you refused to accept it, saying I was faking it, who is the person in the wrong?

Language, grammar, syntax, and meaning are all entirely made up. Made up by humans, and constantly evolving. Language wasn't handed down to us by god. We make it up. And language adapts to suit our (collectively our) needs. If someone prefers one pronoun to another, and they ask you to do so, you should probably do that. It's not a question of freedom, it's a question of not being a closed-minded jerk.

EDIT: Speaking of which, gender roles and the "binary gender" construction is also made up.

You can't force people to use words someone made-up in a blog-post and threaten them with the force of the law if they do not use them.
