A poll for the haters

I'm unclear as to the breakdown of the haters. What kind of Trek film do you want to see, if not what this one looks like to be. A TOS film? Or a TNG film?

Two hours of a young kirk sitting through classes on nacelles design and registry numbers.

a movie with a new ship and a new crew in the 23C. and a less fugly ship and less overbright bridge with too many goddamn lights.

I don't think I'm a "hater" but more of a skeptic. Even though I'm not a big fan of remakes, I'm okay with them doing that. My problem is, they seem to be trying to ahve it both ways by having Nimoy portraying Spock and apparently fairly involved in the storyline, but at the same time, they're "reintroducing the characters" and "changing what we know."

It seems like they're trying to stradle both worlds, and I'm thinking they should have picked one or the other and went with it.

It's called "cover your ass". And I agree. If you're rebooting, just do it and tell a good story. Don't waste time with time travel bs to try to justify it.

fresh new characters who are blank slates and can go off and have adventures with out f***ing up the canon. much.
...and it would be totally unfamiliar to general audiences. More obscure references. Only Trekkies would see it. Kirk and Spock are familiar and have name recognition.

For me, assuming I go to the movie, (and despite my protests to the contrary I probably will), it's going to be weird seeing Nimoy there, interacting with Kirk and Scotty (as was reported in one scene) but Kirk and Scotty aren't Shatner and Doohan. I'm just really struggling with that.

I'm skeptical of the film but am willing to give it a shot even with the shit design work.

That said, if you have to go back to the 23rd century and wanted to stay in cannon I would be interested in seeing something that took place during the second five year mission in between TMP and TWOK.

If your going to reboot it then reboot the whole damn thing. Enough of this half-assed stuff.

I was hoping for a post-nemesis film with a new ship and new cast. I think the lengthy canon and lore is Trek's greatest strength. It should be built upon, not rehashed.

It's already a given that it's unfamiliar to the general audience - that's why they want to redefine everything. A new set of characters would be no more of a problem for the general audience than the old ones, and at least both the general audience and the existing fans would be starting off with the same set of expectations. Even if people are familiar with the names of Kirk and Spock, they have no idea who these characters are, so calling them "Calhoun" and "Bridges" wouldn't make any difference.

I disagree. They wanted to get back to the basics, and that's what they did. Giving us another crew with a whole 'nother backstory would've only stuffed the bursting-at-the-seams Trek universe more.

I want a post-Enterprise, pre-TOS film :guffaw: and a Deep Space Nine The Next Generation series on CBS.

It's time the Romulans got some respect. I want to see the Romulan Empress damnit!

I think we can do without such a poll, particularly since the actual poll part seems to have gotten lost on its way here. I'll just close this.

No, I don't think reposting it would be a good idea.
