A New Twist to Cumberbatch's Role? (SPOILERS, I Guess)

I wouldn't be suprised if even the movie itself won't clarify who Cumberbatch really is ... maye we're gonna have to wait for Star Trek XIII to find out! I'd be laughing my ass off!

Maybe Nazneen Contractor is a female Khan? About time Trek movies had a good female antagonist. I still secretly hope Weller and Eve are Gary 7 and Roberta :)

Oops, my bad. I didn't see, or didn't remember seeing, that post. Good luck to you, milo bloom.

I was reading over this article, which lays odds to the various Into Darkness rumours which have been circling. Of particular note, Rumour 1 is that Cumberbatch is playing a "Mitchell brother."

This got me wondering, back when the initial Gary Mitchell rumours started in the summer, Orci said they were wrong "but only by one word. When this was pointed out in this thread we all thought that maybe the character was actually Gary Seven. But what if it's actually the Gary part that was wrong and that Cumberbatch is actually Gary Mitchell's brother? Thoughts?

Assuming Mitchel has a brother, he could have heard about the particulars of Gary's case and decided to pay a visit to the Barrier himself. Being kin to Gary, his espy rating is high so the barrier causes the same effect on him. Retaliatory detonation ensues.

This could explain the CEO with a privately owned starship as well; the Cumberbatch character could approach him to charter a space flight out to the Barrier.

Cumberbatch speaks on his character at the Japan 9-minute preview premiere (translated from Japanese):
Benedict Cumberbatch said:
I was a fan of the [2009 Star Trek], so I was pleased when I got the offer. But I know the second one will become far-bigger scale, so I felt terror instantly. He is very ruthless…He is not a clearly good or evil character. He is a villain but the actions he takes has intent and reason. He is a complicated character not to be judged by white-or-black, or good-or-evil. But this is the appeal of J.J.’s works and I felt challenge as an actor."

Aside from the things people desperately trying to keep it a secret have said, as opposed to all the evidence we do have (what preciously little there is, namely the comments about the character and his role in the movie, versus all the "it's not this" stuff), the only character that makes any sense whatsoever is Khan.

I think it's significant that in the commentary to the first movie they mention discussing putting the Botany Bay in a scene after the credits. They chose not to do it because they didn't want to commit themselves too soon, but it's obvious that it's a direction they've been thinking about going for quite a while. It might not be Khan, but I think it's more likely to be Khan than Mitchell.
