A New Twist to Cumberbatch's Role? (SPOILERS, I Guess)

I was reading over this article, which lays odds to the various Into Darkness rumours which have been circling. Of particular note, Rumour 1 is that Cumberbatch is playing a "Mitchell brother."

This got me wondering, back when the initial Gary Mitchell rumours started in the summer, Orci said they were wrong "but only by one word. When this was pointed out in this thread we all thought that maybe the character was actually Gary Seven. But what if it's actually the Gary part that was wrong and that Cumberbatch is actually Gary Mitchell's brother? Thoughts?

of course, the possibility exists, but I find it very unlikely. it's not a very clever twist, especially if the other mitchell brother suddenly gets super powers too. if that would be the secret they are keeping from us, 'no, it's not character xyz, it is character xyz's brother instead!' that would be really lame.

The whole "Mitchell's brother" rumor may have been born out of Orci's "Wrong by one word" comment.

What I'm saying is that there may be no other evidence to support this EXCEPT for Orci's comment, and the people who created this rumor may have just been grasping at straws by trying to brainstorm possible meanings of Orci's comment -- and this is one of those brainstorm ideas they came up with. Therefore, Orci's comment may not be further evidence of the Mitchell's brother rumor, but instead may be the genesis of the rumor.

Nah, that would be a cheat, I believe. Isn't Cumberbatch supposed to be playing a Canon Iconic character frm S1 TOS? We've never met Gary Mitchell's brother, so, he doesn't fit the criteria.

Was it specifically season 1, or just a character from TOS? As I said in the other thread about the synopsis that was released today, I'm now thinking there's a slightly greater chance that he's playing Garth of Izar. But if he's specifically a character from S1, that would eliminate Garth.

I'm sticking with my hypothesis that all of this news, the name included, is all a big charade to really throw us off the scent of the real movie. The synopsis is just underwhelming enough to make me hope that is true.
