A new Trek Series, following Trek 2009...

... I would love to see a series launch in the same era as the new Trek movie, but I think it must not involve the Enterprise or her crew. That should be saved for the show stopper movies.

A trek series set on Space Dock and Earth, could be Star Fleet academy with a simulator mission each week, or even a series set on a small starship, on a different mission to the Exploring strange new worlds.

JJ and team could come up with a very unique Sci-Fi premise for a new series, set in a similar style to the film, but not with the expectation of a big ship, and battles, which could never live up to the scale of the movie.

I think such a show should be very ambitious, aim high and all that. The basic of trying something completely different while retaining the fundamentals of the trek philosophy is a good idea.

yeah I don't think it could be another "Wagon Train to the Stars." I just think that might kill the movies' momentum.

At most we'll see a cartoon a la Clone Wars (the new one). Which would kick a lot of ass as far as I'm concerned.

There's a lot of merit to the animated series idea. As we've seen in the DC Animated Universe, you can present good scripts in an exciting format on a reasonable budget.

Perhaps something riffing on XI, set in the time between Jim's enlisting the Academy and the "Three Years Later." Nothing to say he and Bones couldn't have met some interesting space critters in this time . . .

A TV series can't be like in the theater and only be a popcorn action TV series (some movies are pretty deep though). Technically they don't have time or the money for all the cgi and action involved. And most importantly I think it would get boring real fast. A TV series must provide good drama, and wishfully good sci-fi ideas, exploration/mystery and intelligent storyline every week (or so ;)).

Isn't the guy who plays Pike mostly a TV actor? As admiral, he could be an Earth-based show's regular.

I think a series about a Federation Star ship (Not One of the small ones either) being "flung" in to the mirror universe and fighting the Empire along with some suprise rebels. They would restore freedom to the quardant! Then in year Six of the series to find a way home only to find "Their Federation" in ruins.

It would be a great way to haev something concurrent with the new movie and have Pine, Quinto et al and the Enterprise make the occassional appearance.

I'd love a new TV series. I was just watching ENT today. I really miss weekly Star Trek. But at the same time, those 700 episodes are what killed the franchise to begin with. Oversaturation. Longing has made our hearts fonder for this Star Trek movie that we just got.

As much as I would love to be able to see a new Trek story every week I think RegentWorf is right. The franchise was overextended in the 90's and people got sick of it. I think it's better to have a really good movie every couple of years than a new TV show. That way people will WANT to see it each time and it won't kill the franchise again. Let's enjoy what we have and not get greedy.

yeah i like the idea of an mature themed (no not porno, dirty minds) animated series, either CGI or anime style, that way the momentum keeps going and we convert interested youth in the process

one reason I liked Trek as a kid was that while fun it was very adult like and serious too

What about live-action with virtual sets? They would have to do costumes makeup for actors. Perhaps some aliens could be all CGI, especially in the backgrounds?

I think the success of the movie prove the name Star Trek is still very strong.

Star Trek was never dead and Enterprise, while lacking a bit imo, was successful with 4 long seasons. The success of the movie is proof of that. I think its a great opportunity to use the momentum generated by the new movie (or the next one) to create another Trek series. Maybe with JJ at the helms. The Star Trek name is still very strong and I have no doubt many people will take a look at a new Trek series premiere and the couple of episode following it. The success of it will be about the quality, and for this as fans we can only hope. Another 4-5 years of Trek would be great. I don't think a series need to last 7 years to be successful.

virtual sets and quality

animated series, either CGI or anime style

Could CG virtual sets be used with live-action actors in costumes with this?

CryEngine 3 demonstration at GDC Long Version video 2009
This type of video shows that you can show amazing new planets, ships all in CG at feature film quality. No sets to build, paint, decorate, and CG models can be re-used and refitted for other use sets easier.
Just make the camera 3rd-person instead of 1st person.

Without having to make an actual game this type of design can be used just to create a set to use.
