A new "tough little ship"

As to the ship. I could see it being designed for speed and maneuverability. Maybe a fast cruiser designation would be appropriate?

I'm not sure what to call this yet, or what type of ship to classify it as, but this is a design I've been tossing around for a while and finally decided to hammer down a design. Here's a prelim sketch, with some color added in. All resemblance to the NSEA Protector is unintentional, but noted.

Any ideas for a name and/or classification are welcome.

Is Tiburon class already taken? Maybe Tursiops (Bottlenose Dolphin) class?

My suggestions:

1. The year is 2507. The ship pictured is the U.S.S. Rom of Feringinar, Sisko Class. All of the ships in the class are named after heroes of the Dominion War. These ships are designed to provide an escort to trade caravans to civilizations in the Delta Quadrant, now that the propulsion technology has reached a point to allow that.

2. It is 40 years after Nemesis. The ship pictured is the U.S.S. Salinan, a Wateree Class fleet tug ship. The inside of the nacelles facing the "hollow part" of the ship is outfitted with numerous tractor emitters, for towing ships inside or mostly inside the hollow part. (The ship might need to be upsized if this is the application.)

3. Also 40 years after Nemesis. This ship is the U.S.S. S'task, S'task Class - the first ship designed in cooperation by Starfleet and the Romulan Star Empire. It uses an updated version of the singularity drive from D'Deridex class Warbirds. (might want to change the nacelle "lighting" to reflect this)

The technology level doesn't strike me as any more advanced than any TNG movie era ship. We're still seeing the same sort of phaser strips and maneuvering thrusters, and even aesthetic decisions like the shape of the windows is similar. To me, this looks like an immediate post-Nemesis design.

I'd call it the first new class of destroyer to be designed after the Dominion War. As for a name, how about battles? USS Wolf 359 of the Chintoka Class, or something.

How about Surok class? Like others have said, it definitely has a vulcan feel to it.

Gimme an isometric of the ship and I could probably come up with a 3d model.

Just proffered a quick engineering explanation for such a radical departure from previous ST design paradigms. The reinforced arch shape suggested to me a ship designed to withstand strong forces "coming across the bow." Hence the suggestion for slipstream.


As for "good ole warp drive" it's a technology that's 300 years old (or more) by the post-Nemesis years. The slipstream technology that Voyager brings back has too much potential* for SF not to pursue it. Even a limited use version of this would have huge tactical and strategic advantages; regardless, not something SF is going to let go, IMO.

*(IIRC, it was stated that it would do "15 light-years in 5 minutes." Assuming that this is roughly correct, then we are talking about 1.6 million times the speed of light (approx. warp 116 on the old TOS WF^3 scale).)

4. Within a year or so of Nemesis. This starship is the U.S.S. Ballard, a Leeuwin Class amphibious survey ship. It includes improvements to features previously seen on an older class that was designed for survey of aquatic worlds and contact with aquatic civilizations, as well as new features designed specifically to facilitate exploration of the "fluidic space" that Species 8472 is native to.

Not sure what to name it myself. Probably the Protector class. LOL. Nah, I always love your designs flux and glad to see your look/flow of the design always remain the same. Can't wait to see more.

It's a great design Flux. I especially like the outer blade section. Not convinced about the "cockpit" structure in the middle though, doesn't have a Starfleet feel to it. The outer blade, however unconventional, is awesome and fits right in.

Perhaps you can add an angled ring to it, make it a little more 'Vulcan'...good design
