A New TMP Soundtrack Release

IIRC the LotR Extended Edition soundtrack releases included DVD(?) copies that had the sound in 5.1(?), but AFAIK that's pretty uncommon.

It would be cool if it happened for TMP, but I don't see it happening. The LotR folks didn't even do the same thing for the Hobbit releases.

I can't tell whether you're suggesting that my response above was a "hand-waved dismissal" or not.

When surround-sound music began showing up in streaming services, I looked into how and if I could play such files locally, on my computer or synced to my iPhone. The internet didn't even seem to understand the question. If Apple provides the ability to play through in surround, virtual or actual, but can't even be bothered to have a solution for doing so with a file that you actually have in your possession, this isn't really a live format.

It would seem that if you can get a DVD of surround sound music then it would stand to reason that if you just have surround sound files then there must be a way to play them properly as well, but it's not something I've ever had occasion to research.

I don't really do streaming music, so I didn't even know surround sound streaming was an option, much less have I looked into the implementation.
