A New Stargate Series

They want a new Stargate series and they want you to develop it. What's your idea for a new Stargate series? Will it be set in the present continuity, or will it be a reboot? What will it be called? Will it have the fun and levity of SG-1 or SGA, or will it have the darker and more serious tone of SGU? Who are the characters and who will play them? Will it have an ongoing story, or will it be episodic? If it takes place in the present continuity, will it cross over with the three previous shows, possibly tying up loose ends? And if so, how? Lots of details to consider, including who will air it. Tell us about your new Stargate series.

If my job is just to make them a profitable show, then it would be light, episodic, fun, lots of action and be all green screen. I mean, just look at how shit Sanctuary's ratings are and it's been renewed for a fourth season, and to think, even with those crappy production qualities you can still charge the same for the DVD's. In terms of story, I would make a soft reboot like the new Dr Who. It would be set in the same continuity to keep the existing fanbase on board, but enough of a fresh start to get new people interested. For the actors I would fill half the cast with Fillion/genre types to get the sci-fi fans squeeing about, and the rest with cheap no-names with some comedy background. Then even if they're not all that, their timing is enough to keep them endearing and people wanting to tune in to watch them every week without needing much substance. Next would be the all powerful villain who seem unbeatable till they're not, hint at lots of 'ships but don't follow through on any (those are the ones people obsess about the most) and most of all a fast pace and lots of explosions. That's how to make a low risk, semi successful show IMO. Whether it would be any good is anyone's guess.

Personally, I don't like the idea of a reboot. When it comes to Stargate, I'm more attached to the ongoing saga than the concept. The franchise began with the discovery of the gate and an exploratory team. Then what followed was some serious world-building that brought about a small Earth empire, complete with the lost city of Atlantis and a ship billions of light years from home that's may be onto a big discovery about the nature of the universe. We've had too much good development and I'd hate to see it all flushed down the toilet. I was going to confine any suggestions to the present continuity as a result, but figured that maybe franchise fatigue and/or good ideas for a reboot might necessitate the reboot option. If anyone could come up with a good idea within the present continuity that re-invogorates the franchise, that would be great though.

I really don't see where they could go with a new SG series unless you went futuristic, at least people on Earth knew about it. A re-boot is also way too soon to attempt even in the near future.

Well, the obvious approach would be to reveal the Stargate to the world and deal with the political and social consequences. However, that would by necessity be a very Earth-focused show, which hasn't always worked well in the past.

It would also destroy something of the charm of Stargate that would be borderline impossible to get back. I've never really understood the argument that there's no where left for them to go with a series. The Stargate itself is an incredible story telling device, the possibilities for future stories are practically limitless.

I wouldn't touch SG-1, but I would want to re-boot Atlantis. I'd make it a little darker, have the residents of the Pegasus galaxy already be engaged in regular combat with the Wraith.

The Genii, Ronon's people, or whoever, could be advanced to our level or even more advanced, have their own version on the SGC and they're also looking for Atlantis. The Milky Way people would be a thorn in the side of the 'good guys' in Pegasus, but the fact that they have Atlantis, and can make it work, makes them valuable.

I'd also keep Robert Patrick's character around for most of the first season before killing him off, and have Sheppard go through a steep learning curve during that time. Atlantis would also have no contact with Earth for the first several seasons, thus making them rely on allegiences with the native Pegasus civilizations.

Weir would grow as a leader, Tela would be useful as an ambassador to the other civilizations, and Ford would be more seasoned with a lot of gate experience, and he would serve as a sounding board for Shepard. Most of the rest of the cast would remain as-is. Beckett wouldn't die...

Have to agree with this, You could perhaps open the show with an attack on say DC, which forces the revelation of the Stargate program.

Have the alien's use say clocking tech that has/keeps them hidden. One of the downed alien ships leds to where the attack was launched from. (perhaps from another galaxy)

and you can spend the next series, setting up a base, exploring this new galaxy.

Stargate:Infinity the short-lived animated tv series was set in the future, but did not seem to capture the viewer.:vulcan:

Through the use of starships, there must be several other galaxies that can be reached. I'd have an Earth base established in another galaxy, which has regular supply runs from a Daedalus class ship, and can stay in contact with Earth via the stones, but for the most part the show is about an SG team exploring pine forests, fighting aliens, discovering cool Ancient tech, firing P-90s. You know, the fun that attracted us to Stargate in the first place. The show would be episodic with a light story thread running through the episodes builidng up to a storyline to be resolved in two or three episode arc at the end of the season.

A continuation of Stargate Universe.

No? Ok then, let me think.....

Just redo SG-1 as Stargate Command like they were going too at the end of the 8th series. Instead of focusing on SG-1 though, have it be a new team, slightly larger and multinational. Say they're a new exploratory command that is tasked to catalogue every single one of the remaining unexplored gates in the milky way. It's be an SG-1 clone, but, isnt that was people want apparently?

They should do a show called SG-12. It's exactly like SG-1, except they need a new cast every week. Basically it's a team of red shirts.
Because everyone knows that your chances of surviving a trip through the Stargate are 1/(sg team number). I guess statistically every so often a team can survive a two parter.

Stargate: The Next Generation...

The story would take place 80 years in the future with the gate moved to a large shiney building. Everyone knows about it now and people are allowed to seek out new life, and new civilizations, with their promise to homestead hospitible worlds...

The plot focuses on a new SG:1 team, with a cameo in the first episode by Amanda Tapping as an ageless Major Carter.. :)

*takes tongue out of cheek*

I've wanted a Tok'Ra show for the longest time. It would be about an SG team that contracted some incurable disease and were dying, but decided to accept symbiotes in order to survive. The Tok'Ra would preserve their team line-up because they worked so well together, and would utilize their military expertise, as well as use them to better relations with Earth.

There would be a resurgent Goa'Uld threat. All it takes is for one queen to birth a superbatch of evil little buggers, and some still-faithful Jaffa cultists to bring them to term. This time however, instead of posing as gods, they just possess people in high places on certain planets, and take over from within. The table has turned, with the Tok'ra being a force to be reckoned with, and their tactics have changed accordingly. Our SG team is a strike-assassination squad, and regularly have to deal with army/security personnel who think they're protecting legitimate heads of their governments.

Stargate: Discovery

A different take on SGU. A new network of gigantic "Supergates" is discovered that was not built by the Ancients. SG-4 is assigned to an Earth-built starship--the Discovery, of course--to explore this network and find out who built it and why was one deliberately hidden just outside Earth's solar system. Their voyages take them to many new worlds and galaxies outside of the Ancients' stargate network where they encounter many new civilizations both friend and foe. The series would be very action-oriented, with more humor, and little whining about wanting to go home as the Disocvery can use the Supergates to return back to Earth whenever necessary (repairs, resupply, crew rotation, etc).

^ I love that idea. Didn't Cooper and Wright consider having Daniel Jackson command the ship in their early ideas for SGU and the ship was called Universe? I could swear reading that on Gateworld.

A new SG: U == Stargate UNDEAD

Take what's hot (Vampires & Walking Dead Zombies) for a sure ratings hit!

Or, if the budget is really tight, make it a SyFy Saturday movie set to premiere with the "real" movie
