A new idea for human society

john titor

Captain
I have this idea. See most of the problems with the world come from the fact that we have limited resources and there are too many people living in close proximity to each other right? Political systems come and go, we seem to be incapable of creating stable societies which actually work. So what if we were to discover the secrets to ftl travel and terraforming tomorrow? Then we would have an infinite number of planets we could settle. You could have a star trek quadrant of the galaxy where anyone who really likes trek could live in a real life federation with like minded individuals. You could have introvert/extrovert/communist/capitalist/religious/scientifc colonies anywhere in the universe which would be so big that conflict would be rare if not nonexistent. People could claim planets and asteroids as there homes and could interact with the intergalactic community if they so choosed.

Then we would have an infinite number of planets we could settle.

You mean: " Then we would have an infinite number of planets we could fuck up."

Let us try to do something worthwhile with our own planet first before spreading our moronic attitudes all over the universe.

They call you ANGRY for a reason! I say the first thing we should build on the moon is a 24 hour Taco Bell. That would be pretty cool actually.

:guffaw:That's how it got us in the trouble!! It's best if we're staying here on the earth on to find the solution to coexist each other before our moronic attitudes spreading all over the universe! Man, we would be already fuck more planets up already! :guffaw:

I once started a similar thread. I basically said that a lot of the worlds problems and governments and justice systems have been moulded, effected and based on religion so what if we discovered a planet and had that planet just for Atheists.

Oh, smart question. When did you make the thread?

A long time ago.

If you were offered the chance to join a colony that shared many if not all of your interests would you?

No, because that would be utterly boring. Variety is the spice of life. I don't need 10,000 people who are just like me.

It also causes conflict, war, exploitation and a multitude of problems. Maybe you're taking this to its extreme conclusion. The colony would be established such that there would be enough variety without such negative differences as to involve severe conflict or the collapse of the colony's principles. If someone born into it or bored of it wanted to leave star trek world they could do so freely and settle somewhere else.

It's not a new idea, but it's a great one. A universe full of people living freely in custom-built societies is halfway to Utopia.

But only halfway. There are going to be problems.

First of all, there would be the conflict over who gets to keep Earth.

Secondly, many of these custom-built societies would be custom-built by people who like oppression and control. At first, since they are all like minded, there wouldn't be a problem; but as new generations are born and more and more people come to be unhappy with the status quo, you'd have punishments, torture, executions, rebellions and ultimately wars.

But a lot of these societies would be wonderful, and add greatly to the variety of the Human experience.
