A MOMENT of history!

First Contact for me too, though I was a bit disappointed with how it went in the movie. They ruined the moment with the old "let's make the beings from the superior culture feel odd and ridiculous" joke.

It was a little more of "Let's make the Americans seem like ignorant fools" than let's embarrass the Vulcans, in my opinion.

^^Hmm, I hadn't thought about it that away. The Americans in that scene are representing Earth, they're the first Earthlings the Vulcans meet. And what they do is not exclusive to Americans. Almost every culture in this world drinks alcohol, and there are lots of obnoxious musical genres to be listented in high volume while you're getting drunk and fooling around with your peers. So what they did there is not exclusive to Americans. They may be poking fun at the specific state or region the scene was set in (and I wouldn't get that since I'm not American), but I don't think they're trying to make the entire country look like fools.

I still think they wanted to make the vulcans look ridiculous. :vulcan:

Or maybe they're just trying to convey the difference between 24th Century humans and 21st Century humans. If you were to play that scene back to back with one of Picard's first contacts it would really show how far humans had come within the Trekverse.
