A "Modern" trailer for 2001...

This is absolutely priceless... envisioning how 2001: A Space Odyssey might be marketed today.

It's funny how much more the model spacecraft look like models when they're sped up like that.

It's a pretty lame trailer. Speeding up the footage looks silly. If anything, they should have used some slo-mo on some of it along with the rapid cuts, much like the Prometheus trailers.

This 2001 montage set to the Inception soundtrack does a much better job as a trailer in keeping with the tone and style of the actual film.

It's possible this is meant to parody the hyperkenetic style of modern trailers. In which case, that's the point, I guess.

Oh my, yes, that's much better. Thank you for sharing.

If it's intended as a send-up, then yes, it works. But if the intent was more to show how real modern version of a 2001 trailer would look, it fails. With it being produced by film students, it's really hard to say.

Neither one struck me as particularly good versions of "modern" trailers. Since 2001 doesn't have a lot of dialogue, they can't really rely on that.

IMO, this is a better example of old movie given a good modern trailer:

And just for fun, Fellowship Of The Rings trailer done Wes Anderson style. If you've never seen any Anderson films, then you might not get the "joke" so to speak, but it's spot on. :)

recut trailer 2001...

I liked the idea of what this 2012 trailer is doing but over 2 minutes? The first half was pretty good.
I would like to see all of this trailer same footage recut to a 1 minute trailer.

I wasn't wild about the music choice.

2001: A Space Odyssey (Inception Remix)
Yes I also agree the music matched the tone with the editing choices. Pretty good.

Re: recut trailer 2001...

The point of the trailer was to show how modern Hollywood would cut a 2001 trailer for a "summer blockbuster" status. At least according to the article on iO9.com that I just saw.

Re: recut trailer 2001...

They failed. speeding up the footage just makes it look cartoonish, not modern summer blockbuster.

From what I understand, they shot the models at normal speed (not as fast as in that trailer), but overcranked to make it slow and get the right exposure. So no wonder they look odd sped up like that.
