A minor personal note on the new film

quazar

Captain
Captain
I learned to read in the third grade on my dads Star Trek books. Something about them struck a chord. Kirk, Spock, McCoy, and the family in space. They're gods, people I respect, love, and admire. Fictional people, like Bruce Wayne or Clark Kent or Luke Skywalker. People who had been through alot more then I could ever imagined possible to someone like myself.

A frak up or what have you.

But they faced everything with a pizzaz and a grace and ...

well everything I have admired about these people I would take a bullet for. But I've spent the last thirty years coming to the realization that I am a poor student, of them and of life, and by gosh the only reason I am writing this tonight is because this new movie is the only thing holding me together right now. I'm excited, and I can't wait to see the new adventure of the crew that I learned to love from a coloring book my grandma got me at the dirt mall, a bunch of books that let me escape and learn when I needed to most, and a cartoon that were all spawned from the source material that brings us all here checking this instead of porn or stocks or whatever.

I love Star Trek. And this new incarnation may not live up to my expectations, or hopes, but nothing else has. And right now its a reminder that there are alot of things worth living for, even when...

hell. I'm not a bricklayer, I'm not a spinal surgeon, I'm not even Dead. Jim. But Star Trek is giving me a reason to not hate myself and everything tonight. And it's done it before.

Well, word is it we'll all have a great time seeing this movie next month.

I hope it encourages you and inspires you and helps you feel worthy again.

My prayers are with you, quazar. Feel free to message me anytime. My friends say I am a good listener.

We support you on this board Quazar....... if you like the movie or not you will find others to celebrate or lament with you!

I hope you are feeling better then when you first posted that!

There was once a time Star Trek was all I had too, I understand.

My prayers go out for you to receive the thing you need. :bolian:

Trek is many things to many people. I was inspired by seeing people who look like me and others around me on that show, it gave me hope for the future...and it still does.
Keep the faith my friend.

Star Trek is, at it's heart, a positive thing. That's the one thing that makes Trek so popular and, as the first poster said, makes one feel good. And as CHEBB said, let's one feel included. Also, starships aren't just full of all sorts of people but geeks and nerds too! Scientists are heros, check out Mr science officer eh?

There's a reason this Trek thing has such legs. I feel that's the heart of it.

^^^This makes me sad for you. :(

However, I must say that Trek was there for me at my darkest time but that was only a period of eight months. You sound like you've had a lifetime of sadness, disappointment and loneliness.

For that, I am sad.

quazar I wish you the best. i sent you a private message.

whether you like it or not, whether you know it or not, you have friends! There's nothing you can do about it ;)

We're all friends on here, remember that! No one is really sad who has friends, or something like that.

I also had a really dark period in my life, one that happened at the most formative point (pre-teen, early teens). It was then that I opened up to a wonderful and fictional universe, where I saw folks who were always there for me when no one else was.

It got me through a tough time, and I will always go back to them now for a little pick-me-up.

But, remember: you have friends here. I have never met you, nor spoken to you before this point, but just having a common interest and passion for something makes us all friends.

Just know that.
