A man without an identity - none at all

I think it's pretty cool he managed to stay off the grid for so long. Doesn't sound like he was unhappy with his life either.

Who knows what secrets - good or bad - his past held, but frankly, I say good for him for living what sounds an interesting and contented life. Would that we all pass away being able to say that. :techman:

I think it's fabulous that he's gone through life without gathering paperwork. Good for him! I don't subscribe to the theory that he hasn't got an identity. Of course he has, it's just not one stamped with a government seal.

Given his age and admittance that he came from Germany, that puts him mid-twenties during WW2. I'm guessing there is a past he wanted to be away from.

But he has not hurt anyone since then and surely has not profited; so no harm, no foul.

RIP Mr. George

Okay, someone has to ask the obvious: If he has no birth certificate, how do they know he's 93?

Very interesting story. I'm being caught somewhere between thinking that's pretty cool and wondering what the story really is behind him.

They don't know... like they said in the story, they can really only give him an age based on the birthday that he's given: July 20, 1916.

Very cool that he kept off the grid for so long. He may have something to hide, but doesn't really matter now.

King of the Road, Teller of Tales-- a Romantic character, indeed. It strikes me as a little sad, since there were probably some mental issues there, but he seemed to have enjoyed his life.

RIP, Roger.

Does this mean that he is probably an illegal alien?
Could be, although he claimed to be from Pennsylvania.

What a story. A man with no identity? I don't buy it. The snippets of his life that are know manage to hint at something much more. This man lived, it seems, and that provides plenty of identity for anyone. :)

Reading your responses to this- basically, "don't be silly, of course he has an identity, he just managed to live without the government putting its stamp on him over and over again- heh, good for him" really cheers me up. :) This is one of the reasons I like you guys so much.

originally he said the Dutch Amish region but later admitted he had come from Germany. Now, was that true? we'll likely never know..

...Visiting him one day, Dorothy sensed he had something on his mind or on his conscience. He told her he'd lied about his past at the hospital. But she didn't learn much. Yes, he'd come from Germany.

DNA test may be able to confirm that he isn't Dutch Amish from Pennsylvania. They can be relatively inbred in some communities IIRC from one of my courses a while back.
