A Man Alone: Odo's voice

The Quark-Rom relationship to me always stuck out as really weird. Rom straight up plots to murder his brother twice, and yet despite that, Quark (who is always very quick to press charges) not only doesn't demand the imprisonment of Rom, but stands up for him at every opportunity. Like I know he's your brother and all, but he tried to kill you! Twice!

I think I'm just going to conclude that "The Nagus" is in an alternate timeline. Not only does it have this weirdness, but there's also the issue of Odo coming upon the attempted-murder-in-progress and not arresting anyone. And Krax! Son of the Nagus! Never again seen or mentioned, even though he was directly relevant to a lot of the situations in Zek's subsequent appearances. Clearly, Krax just does not exist in the DS9 Prime timeline...

I didn't notice anything different about Odo's voice in this episode compared to others. But I did notice that his face looked different in the early episodes of season 1 compared to how he looked later on.

Early on, Odo's face seemed more natural looking. By that, I mean his face appeared less artificial. In other words, Odo looked more like Rene Auberjonois without the make up. I guess the makeup people changed Odo's prosthetic makeup later on for some reason.

I don't remember but was there an in-universe explanation for the change? Did Odo get tired of his early look and shape shifted his face to look more smooth for the rest of the series?

They've always said that Odo couldn't perfect an accurate human face, but I always thought that his appearance changed over time because 'practice makes perfect'. I think if we'd seen Odo twenty years down the line, he'd have looked much more like... erm... Rene Auberjonois.
