A lot of Star Trek related subreddits have suddenly become inaccessable!

For instance r/startrek, r/startrekdiscovery, r/startrekpicard, r/lowerdecks and r/startreksnw. There might be more.

It's also the case with r/asksciencefiction.

On a thread i made on reddit about this issue, someone read the following message on desktop:

"r/AskScienceFiction

/r/AskScienceFiction is closed until the Reddit administration removes /r/NoNewNormal and other vaccine misinformation subreddits from Reddit. We cannot remain open and also keep our consciences clear. We encourage users of all subreddits to petition your moderators to do the same.

So, this isn’t really about Star Trek, but rather some controversy at Reddit.

I’m thinking this belongs in Websites. That’s where other Reddit topics have gone.
 
If you follow the link provided it explains EXACTLY what is going on and why...........no need to wonder.

Here's a hint: Subreddits which exist solely to spread medical disinformation and undermine efforts to combat the global pandemic should be banned.

I read it and see it the same way.

My only worry about this, is that Reddit doesn't take any action against these disinformation subs and the mentioned scifi and star trek subreddits don't open again, because of this!

Lol and I guess Admiral Layton had the right idea? Subs that are known to harbor antivaxxers are still up and subs that are not have been taken down, that says a lot.



There's clearly other motivations at work, reddit is a for profit business, I'm quite certain they've become less transparent and more manipulate in the past few months.

Is reddit losing more money from the strike, than it is making from the Medical disinformation sub reddits?

What rubbish. Since when were the Star Trek reddit page discussing about vaccination or covid? Don't understand the reason for the page to be removed or not accessible.

It's a strike, or a boycott.

The sane people on Reddit, what few there are, are closing down their subreddits voluntarily, until the Reddit Administrators develop policy to ban Anti-Vaxxing propaganda.

If enough popular sub redits close down, it will affect Reddits bottom line.

You are missing the point---Reddit isn't taking them down........the mods of those groups are protesting.

I deleted my account on another movie message board because it was being overrun by the crackpot conspiracy theorists smugly looking down their noses at anyone who had a good word to say about masks and vaccines, and the mods never even acknowledged that there was anything wrong. :rolleyes:
Reddit is different since each sub is basically an independently run board with its own moderator(s). The administrators of the site itself seem to have taken no position at all on this kind of misinformation.

Since this just happened, it may take a while for the Star Trek subreddit mods to notice, and open up their subs again.
