A little Ship I am doing

REB_Studios

Ensign
Newbie
A little ship I am currently playing about with.
Wings 3D again. Here are a couple of shots of the ship so far. Crew compliment should be around 22. She is supposed to be a light hybrid style vessel.

Work so far.

Thoughts on this appreciated

I like it seems like a very good hybrid of Federation and Klingon :)

Thanks. And yes I was tring to get a Federation/Klingon hybrid look to the model. Here is an earlier full render with no proper texture, just a general material throwover... Also Note though the ship as it is an earlier mesh is minus a lot of greebles/detailing.

I'm with kaisernathan on this one, the nacelles (and, in fact, the entire rear assembly) seem awfully thin. The head, in contrast, looks much too massive. I'd suggest flattening it. Streamlines the whole ship and and makes it less front-heavy in one go. ;)

Other than that, though, I can't find anything wrong with this one. Keep up the good work! :)

Best I can do now without totally scrapping the entire mesh and starting from scratch.
Final version of the mesh. Nacells rotated and fattened up. Lower part of the ship aslo fattened up.

Would appreciate any ideas as to a name for her, and maybe an identy NCC number....

Thnx!!!

Whats it for? From what I've seen the name of the NX version of a ship tends to come from its purpose. Galexey was for exploration, Defiant was for fighting the borg, Intrepid again for exploration. You don't have to do that of course, but it seems to fit the bill.

What I see when I look at the design is one of two things.

One, I could definitely see someone putting a couple of tractor emitters in the open space below the wings and making it a tug type of ship.

Two, with the Klingon design influence, perhaps some sort of attack ship. A little bigger then the Paragrin perhaps, but not quite as powerful. It would rely more on speed and agility rather then power.

Here's my idea for what we're looking at here:

This ship is the freighter/escort U.S.S. Khitomer, NCC-2293, Kamarag-Class. The class is named after Klingon Ambassador Kamarag who, along with Klingon Ambassador Kang and Federation Ambassador Curzon Dax, supposedly sponsored the cooperative Federation/Klingon project to design and construct the ship shortly after the event of Star Trek VI. History shows, however, that while Kamarag did put his name to the project after the Khitomer Conference, the idea had already been worked out by Kang and Dax during their 2289 negotiations at the Korvat colony, which had experienced supply shortages on numerous occasions due to piracy.

The intention behind the design was to provide both political entities with a way to safely transport government cargoes, such as colonial and base supplies, in space lanes that had recently seen increases in pirate activity, particularly from the Orion Syndicate. The large, heavily armored cargo hull in the fore of the ship separated from the remainder of the vessel, which could then act as defender. The defender portion would not be a match for a ship of the line from either major power, but had power to spare to handle most of the vessels that pirates used.

The original eight ships of this class - four of which bore NCCs 2290 - 2293, four of which bore various IKS designations - were all equipped with simple cloaking devices for the cargo hulls. Again, these were not of a quality that would serve to hide the hull from the sensors of major space navies, but would serve to make the cargo difficult for pirates to locate. The Federation discontinued this in later construction of Kamarags for its use, pursuant to the Treaty of Algeron signed in 2311.

Eventually, both governments began providing ships of this class to trusted civilian cargo-carrying services. Additionally, the Klingons began building Type-B Kamarags, with an updated, more heavily armed, and cloak capable defender section, and a troop transport hull in place of the cargo hull.

The names and registries of the first four, cloak capable, Federation Kamarag-Class ships:

NCC-2290 U.S.S. Kamarag
NCC-2291 U.S.S. Kang
NCC-2292 U.S.S. Ursula
NCC-2293 U.S.S. Khitomer

The names of the first four Klingon-built Kamarag-Class ships:

I.K.S. Curzon Dax
I.K.S. James T. Kirk
I.K.S. Nyota Uhura
I.K.S. Korvat

(It should be noted that the story of Uhura's deception in getting the Enterprise to Rura Penthe as a freighter - which became fleet scuttlebutt despite any efforts to contain it - was very popular with both the Klingon and the Federation engineers on the design team.)

Well, whatya think?

^ The front part does look like it would be able to detach, ala the Vulcan shuttle from TMP.

You could design different pods for it.

Triumph: A Klingon named Ursula? Any Klingon with that name (especially if it's a male) should be obligated to commit ritual suicide as soon as possible, seeing as it is a real, and common (if somewhat old-fashioned) given name for girls.

REB: I said fLatten the front part, not fatten. ;) And Pharazon's idea sounds pretty good. Why don't you see if you can design a few interchangeable modules for the front?

Much better :techman:

USS WORF NCC-81000

My concept for the ship is a freighter/escort. In ST VI, the Enterprise sneaks to Rura Penthe to rescue McCoy and Kirk by pretending to be a freighter in communications with a Klingon listening station. Specifically, "We am thy freighter Ursula". ;)
USS WORF NCC-81000
How about U.S.S. Worf, NCC-2320, named for General (formerly Colonel) Worf, who defended Kirk and McCoy at trial in 2293? We could establish a pattern of Starfleet sometimes naming Kamarags after Klingons they wish to bestow a minor honor upon.

BTW to REB_Studios: If you don't care for my idea for your ship, feel free to say so - I won't be offended. I just started writing, and the idea grew and grew the more I looked at the ship. Especially the art shot in the third post. :bolian:

Sorry for not getting back to this thread. No I loved the ideas. Actually there has been some interesting ideas from yourself and others here. Gives me something to think about and how to progress the model.

Cheers

I like the thin nacelles- It's not like they don't exist. Klingons have them, and we almost got thin (at least they looked thin) nacelles with the Phase II design.

Is the drive section completely autonomous? It has the same feel as the warp sled from TMP.

Small update.
The Sled idea seemed very cool. therefore I dropped the main crew quarters section off the mesh. I intend to do as suggested a few interchangable modules for her. Eg the main quarters as seen in the original model, And a transport version, maybe a medical hospital one too,

Here is the mesh now in her final stages without any attachments.

Thoughts?
