A Klingon here, a Klingon there, a Klingon everywhere

This whole falling back on "Alternate Reality" is starting to annoy me to no end because there's no effort behind it and it's a weak plot device.

It was supposed to avoid annoying us, but many (myself included) seem to be more annoyed than if he had just done his own version without the convoluted tie-ins that aren't really right.

Remember (way back) when they recast The Lone Ranger for a total reboot movie in the seventies? It ended up hurting that film.

I suspect not recasting it and using an elderly Clayton Moore might have hurt it more! That film stayed pretty true to the previous legend, aside from having different actors. They made Butch Cavendish a bigger operator, if I remember, but the rest was accurate to its "canon."

That's not my point... the fact that they made a reboot of LR at ALL hurt the film because fans did not want Clayton Moore replaced. They didn't want a new movie and it was a bomb even though the film itself was pretty good. They didn't want anyone to mess with the classic regardless of the source material. And that's the risk to be had with a Star Trek reboot. Unless you ATTEMPT to please the fans by putting some solid classic Trek element like Nimoy in the film. What might have happened if Abrams and crew went with a total reboot with no alternate universe? This forum would have exploded with haters.

Has anyone noticed that a damn lot of Star Trek movies are about the Klingons?

Well, let's consider why for a moment. Klingon territory shares a border with the UFP. Unlike the Romulans, Kilngons are not xenophobic protectionists and instead, explore space and establish new holdings. It is a foregone conclusion that humans ans Klingons will cross paths a lot.

As long as the stories are strong and the characters are strong, I don't care what species they are. Based on the evidence thus far, I would take Klingons over the Son'A, Remans, the Borg Queen and her castrated marching morons. Christopher Lloyd's Kruge was awesome.
