Well I decided that I'm gonna give Farscape a shot, so I watched the pilot today. I liked it a lot and I can't wait to see more of the show. :) Some of the humor just kicks ass, hehe.

Associate... some... words!??!?

Hmm, maybe it is business as usual :p ;)

HERE, let me help! :p  (for you Admirals out there, that link is to the Commies Lounge Word Association thread. )

5 posts a day...knock yourself out. ;) :p

That goes for you too you know. :p Even more so since you've got 6 versions at your disposal. :p

Hey Steven!

:p

And glad you are giving Farscape a try, BigFoot!!! It's an excellent show! And if you start now, you might be done in time for the October mini-series! ;)

^ I should definately be done by then. We're going on vacation tomorrow, so I won't get to watch much in the next two and a half weeks, but after that, I might watch up to five eps a day, lol. :D Maybe even more if it's really good.

^ It's good, IMO.

The great thing about Farscape is that they *took chances*. Farscape is NOT "safe" scifi!

But of course, the flip side to that is that they ended up with some *really* fantastic episodes....and some *total* dogs as well. Luckily for us, more fantastic episodes than crappy ones...and alot of ones that are kinda in the middle...but overall, a great show. And there is a two-part episode at the end of season 3 (Into the Lion's Den) that is, IMO, among the best episodes *ever* in scifi.

If you like humor in your scifi (Buffy, Firefly, DS9, etc.), Farscape is great in that department too! IMO, the humor in Farscape is right up there with any Joss show. You no doubt got a taste of it in Premiere...and it only gets better from there as you get to know the characters!

IMO, the best season 1 episodes of Farscape are:

Premiere
PKTrekGirl
The Flax
Durka Returns
Nerve
Hidden Memory
Family Ties

You'll have to let me know what you think as you watch the episodes! :)

BTW, are you gonna be gone from *here* for 2 1/2 weeks? If so...know that we will miss you, and hope that you have a nice vacation!

^ Honestly, I think I'm gonna love Farscape. I like wacky shows that take chances (which is why I find Enterprise so dull) and I love shows that focus on their characters. And I can already tell it's a show with a lot of great humor, which I really love.
Like I said, I really liked the episode, I was a bit surprised how quickly John got sent through the wormhole, but it worked well IMO. Some of the humor was already amazing and the effects kicked ass. :D So yeah, I'm gonna try to ration the show a bit, probably not a lot though.
Anyway...I should be on the board every day, cos we do have internet access where I'm going to, it's just dial-up so I won't be here as much. I'll also be doing a lot of other stuff there so my time might be a little more limited. But yeah, I should be checking the board at least once a day. :)

As for The X-Files....I can't BELIEVE that your favorite episode is Home!!! That one is just plain scary-weird IMO! And kinda disgusting as well. Especially the ending.
First of all, I apologize for not replying quickly, I took yesterday off Trek BBS to spend the entire day writing. My fingers almost fell off. :p

Anyway, Home is hilarious in the fact that people either think of it as one of their favorites, or are to grossed out by it to even consider it as one of the best. You'd be surprised how often it makes top ten lists though. I don't know if you see him often, but one of my favorite posters, Nathan Hale Bridger (Another huge X-Files fan) also gives Home the nod as best episode.

Let me explain why I love it... It's classic X-Files. Mulder & Scully, unexplained murders, small town, sheriff doesn't understand what's happening, funny back & forth joking between Mulder & Scully (Mulder has some very funny lines in this episdes - "Oh, I don't know, that was just a little too Chuck Bronson for me"), great gore special effects, creepy premise. It's an amalgamation of everything I loved about the X-Files. I still can't believe they accomplished so much in just 44 minutes. If I were the director of some recent Hollywood horror films like Cabin Fever or Jeepers Creepers I'd be embarressed a tv show out classed my theatrically released film in every regard.

In short, Home made me realize just how truly powerful a single standalone hour of television can be.

I have a tendency to prefer the episodes that contribute to the conspiracy arc, so prolly my favorite episodes to date are Gethsemane, Redux, and Redux II. I also really loved The Blessing Way and Paper Clip.
I'm not a huge fan of the myth arc, but that's mainly because I'm more intrigued by creepy serial killers and the paranormal than I am government cover ups. That's not to say I never enjoyed them... I don't know if you've seen the episodes before, where the situation with Mulder's sister Samantha is finally cleared up? It's in season seven. The final act is one of the most touching in all The X-Files. It actually gave me goosebumps when Mulder's question is finally answered. A lot of people hate the final answer, but even if it is a tad hokey, it still made for some touching drama, in my opinion.

In terms of stand-alones, I'd have to go with Paper Hearts or one of the episodes that contribute to the backstory - The Usual Suspects or Musings of a Cigarette Smoking Man. But I also liked Hell Money alot...and Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose. Jose Chung's "From Outer Space" is kinda funny and I did enjoy it...but it's not among my favorites.
If you'd be surprised how often Home cracks people's top ten lists, you'd be delighted to know that Clyde Bruckman is pretty much always one of the top two or three episodes in most polls I ever see.

I love this exchange:

Clyde Bruckman: You know, there are worse ways to go, but I can't think of a more undignified way than autoerotic asphyxiation.
Fox Mulder: Why are you telling me that?
Clyde Bruckman: Look, forget I mentioned it. It's none of my business.

Paper Hearts is superb as well. I'm surprised by your fondness for Hell Money, I'm having a tough time remembering that one... Was that the black market body parts episode?

And yeah...I'm really glad to talk about The X-Files with you. Even when it was still on, it wasn't a hot topic in SFF...and now if I posted a thread, it would be buried faster than you can say "Firefly". :p
No kidding, I remember when X-Files got people as excited as Firefly does these days. Personally, I think too many people let David Duchovny's departure turn them off the show. There's still plenty of excellant episodes with Robert Patrick. I just watched a great one yesterday, "John Doe", once again leaving me floored by the cinematography of the show. That's a season nine episode, by the way. Also, I don't think the high price of the DVDs helps matters, but Fox DVD currently has a deal on where the first seasons of all their shows are half price... Buffy, Angel, Simpsons, Family Guy and even X-Files. So hopefully that'll help find the show a few fans..

IMO, it's a great show...at least the first 5 seasons! I'll let you know what I think as time goes by and I see more episodes...but so far, I really love it. *Alot* more than when I saw it only occasionally and didn't know what was going on in the conspiracy arc. ;)

Edit to add: The last episode I watched was Kitsunegari.
Keep me posted on your progress, I'm very interested to hear what you think about the final four seasons. You might find the sixth & seventh seasons a tad sluggish, but as I said, I think the show gets a renewed energy in the eighth year.

They left Vancouver at the end of the fifth season, and began filming in LA from season six on. Personally, I don't think it hurts the look of the show a hell of a lot, but some people claim its when the show "jumped the shark".

Speaking of Farscepe, I gave it a try recently. I rented few DVDs from a local video store. They have them in groups of 2-3 DVDs. I like the show so far but unfortunately I'm having a hard time telling the seasons apart. I think the video store is missing some disks from season one.

Design of Farscape DVDs is nice but the problem is they are not clearly labeled , cases have some weird numbers on the bottom of the spine but it doesn't say which DVDs are in which season and there are no disc numbers on the discs so it is very hard to tell what order they go in. The last episode I saw was the one with the weird albino type lady who appears to be the leader on a hippie type planet (I love Chrichton's jokes about hippies in that episode ) enslaved by the Peacekeepers. I think the video store is missing couple of discs after that episode.

So I'm wondering, how serial in nature is Farscape and can I skip couple of discs after this episode because I cannot wait to see what those nasty Peacekeepers are up to, and who is the ugly gingivitis guy with a ski mask on the covers of some of the season two discs(at least I think it's season two)?

OH! Now I see! I like my posts the good ol fashioned way, long and drawn out - Evil Dead is my kind of poster

Dang, now Farscape is good too!?!?! I'll never catch up  ;) Seriously though, I'm giving more thought to renewing my NetFlix membership. It was nice when I had it; I have at least 2 Blockbusters within 10 minutes of me, and the selection still sucks!

Most of Season 1 isn't that serial, compared to the story arcs found in the other seasons, so you could skip some. Season 3 is probably the most serial of them all. I wouldn't skip S1's A Human Reaction, though. The "ski mask" guy you speak of shows up in S1's Nerve, and from then on the arcs really take off.

Montresor, you and your different O'Brien avs are wild. It's like carrying on the "Torture O'Brien" subjects that constantly ran through the series. Keep the spirit alive man!

^ I know...I love them too! I think they are great!

Also, The Evil Dead...I've not forgotten about our X-Files discussion...just been too busy IRL to sit down and type out a reply. But I will! Promise!

Don't rush yourself, but thanks for the head's up. I was afraid I'd killed the thread with my Mulder like rambling. :o

Thanks for all the av props, guys! I aim to please!

I finally saw The Bourne Supremacy last night, and I must say I was a bit disappointed by it. The story and such was fine, but the cinematographer and editor need to be shot...repeatedly. I mean, the car chase in The Rock was ten times more coherent! Is it a rule now that no shot can be more than 1/2 a second long? The fights in Chronicles of Riddick had the same problem. Diss the Matrix sequels all you want, but at least the camera lingered occasionally!

Okay, rant over!

Anyone else see it and have a similar impression?

:p ;)

Yeah, hurry up! :p

I'm headed into the city tomorrow, so I'll be exchanging my B5 season 1 set and maybe getting season 2. ;)

Oh for the love of....

So, I take my season 1 set in to exchange it for one that has an episode guide. The guy at the counter says that all the ones they have are like that (apparently, others have come in complaining about that), so he gives me the phone number for Warner Bros. so I can call for a replacement. I'm cool with that.

I go over to Future Shop (just down the street) and comparing prices for season 2. It's the same price as it was at Best Buy, so I pick it up there. I just get home and open it up. Guess what?

No episode guide.

Are you guys sure this is a standard thing that should be there?

Maybe Warner Brothers doesn't like Canadians or something. :p

Cus yeah...the booklets are standard.

^ Well, I bought all three of my sets (S2, S3, S4) in Canada (FutureShop) and I always got the episode guide. :)
