As I've said before, "The High Ground" was considered subversive enough to be banned in the UK - the only Star Trek episode to have this dubious honour.

Do you mean the only episode to be banned on the grounds of subversion; or the only episode to be banned?
Yes, it does. The Old Mixer said:
But YMMV.
No, I meant what I said. The term can be used to refer to corrupting someone or something as well as its more common usage. The idea that a Star Trek episode was going to warp - or corrupt or pervert - people into thinking differently about the mess in Northern Ireland was just silly. I was simply using a more extreme word to make my point. Again, YMMV.I think you mean "subversive".

I've never heard of the problems with "Plato," "Miri," "Whom Gods" and "Empath." Why were they unavailable?

Why not? A question was asked and has been answered. Such is life on a discussion board.![]()

Following on from my initial comments, it's easy enough for me to say that it's "silly" to imagine a Trek ep was going to have a big impact on how people viewed the Northern Ireland situation - after all, I'm here on the other side of the planet and thus cannot have a realistic idea of what it was like to actually live with that situation. To me, "The High Ground" was simplistic and the delivery of its message was of the "beat the viewer over the head with a brick" type that Trek lapses into at times.
All I can say is, MMV.Kegek Kringle said:
And Old Mixer, I'm aware of a difference in emphasis, but the important thing is one of them is not a car reference. Which is important, IMHO.![]()
Nah. I'm more inclined to focus on the fact that the stuff the brick is made of is telling me something I already know, and therefore beating me over the head with it is kinda pointless.Kegek Kringle said:
Ever get beaten on the head by a brick but stop to admire its interesting contours?
