A Heated Battle

I'm reluctant to click links I don't recognize from a new user, but a Google Search seems to associate "Starfighter Command" with one or more Star Wars games.

It looks like someone has trademarked it, but if you're not the person who registered the name on April 13, 2013 and assigned serial number 85903535, you may not have much of a case.

I have no legal background, so you need to discuss this with a trademark lawyer, not a forum board.

Guys, this is the Websites and Design forum, not the Trademark law discussion forum.

Actually, this is exactly where this discussion belongs. - Suppose you started a website called, Star Trek's Starfighters, a website devoted to those seemingly forgotten one and two man fighter craft used in all the Star Trek TV shows and movies, including exclusive photos of the actual F-104 from the original TV series. Spend years of your life collecting information, making YouTube videos, maintaining the website, and one day out of the blue you get a court order to take down your website and LucasFilm/Disney serve you with a lawsuit for trademark infringement for using the word, "Starfighter," in the title of your website. You don't think that will effect your website's design?

Get a lawyer. It's a waste of energy to vent here about it. Vent at him so he can see how angry you are about it. Only he can tell you if you have a possible case.

We need to think about trademark and copyright issues as web designers and be aware of them, it is not just Starfighter, it could be some picture you found online somewhere, or a catchy trademarked phrase the author didn't want you using. Stuff we don't think about, but things we do every day. Not everything online we cut-and-paste is free, it has a cost, even if you are just giving it away. Certainly, you would want to protect your property and we should respect the property of others. What we put on our websites is important if it is not YOUR original work.

Like I said, I don't think this is the appropriate place to discuss this (anyway, it seems to be more a personal issue than a general discussion). And since I'm the moderator here and you decided to discuss it anyway after I said not to, I'm going to shut it down.

Send comments by PM if you have any questions or complaints.
