Some of the effects in TNG's first season, especially, were highly stylised and I appreciate them for that reason, very much. Like in "We'll Always Have Paris," the planetoid shots are very cool-looking and the vertical blinds effect Data encounters in the laboratory is very unusual. From Season 3 on, FX seemed to be less concerned about style and more about straightforwardness. So I'm very much a fan of the first couple seasons' FX department, for sure ...
