A&E Taking Heat For Suspending 'Duck Dynasty's' Phil Robertson

This is causing a national backlash against the A & E network for suspending Phil Robertson for his completely innocent comments he said to GQ magazine. On Facebook they are calling for a boycott of the network and have had over 600,000 within hours. Politicians are coming forward defending Robertson who is devout duck hunter and Christian like myself. This will be a huge loss for A&E if the Robertson family moves to another network.

The guy said some extremely insensitive things I think it's only fair he suffers some repercussions from them. That said, I'm shocked that anyone is shocked that this man held the opinions he expressed.

I'm also shocked this show is as popular as it seems to be. Have we sunk so low, America?

it's a pity the so call Christians who claim persecution over such incidents tend not to be toletant when the shoe is on tbe on the other foot.

if a gay person tv personality had said something about Christians, it would be a lead story on fox news and their would be demands for firing (not to mention death threats).

yep hypocrisy at it's finest.

Precisely. I don't understand it.

Now, I'm not a practicing Christian. I tried reading The Bible but, frankly, the story wasn't holding up and it was going nowhere. But what I *do* know is that Jesus died for our sins and it is accepted that everyone sins and you cannot NOT sin. So God forgives all sin accept for denying Him and His son.

So who cares if someone is gay? God sees all sin the same, someone who is gay, in the eyes of God, is no worse than someone who has murdered. If both have given themselves to God and believe in Him and Jesus they get in Heaven.

Only God gets to judge, not us.

So, shut-up people and stop making God's decisions for him. He's already made them and it's pretty well laid out in that book you hold so much value in.

And if you *must* express your views about an entire group of people don't be too surprised when society kicks you in the ass for it. By all means you have the right to say these things without repercussions from the government. Repercussions from your fellow man or your private employers is a whole other matter.

There is nothing wrong what he said. Possessing and voicing traditional family values, much which are based in religion is considered unacceptable today. But advocating for the despicable act of two men engaging in the vile act of anal sex is not. Welcome to Obama's America. “Political correctness” is the first tool of all totalitarian societies and we are witnessing it first hand. Living Christian faith out loud makes Hollywood and the DC/NY pundits uncomfortable. Having anti-Christians with pro-homosexual proclivities in the current WhiteHouse and Congress was bound to hit head-on with the majority of Americans sometime. Might as well be now. The Robertson's will come out winners in this situation.

Your statement is ignorant, lacking common sense, and without merit.

Christianity enjoys the majority voice, and the majority vote in this country. It is not oppressed, it is not under siege, and it is in no danger of losing the comfortable margin it has in the public, and halls of Congress, any time soon.

Phil Richards is not being censored by the U.S. government, he is being chastised by A&E for giving them bad publicity, which is something he is probably barred from doing under his contract with A&E. His employer has every right to reprimand him for his statements, since he is employed by A&E. His freedom of speech has not been infringed upon, he is still free to say what he wishes, but his employer does not have to let his bad press negatively affect their financial well-being.

^ Plus I just.... love.... the repeated implications that being proudly Christian means being anti-gay.

That said, look at all the fucks I don't give about what happens to Duck Dynasty. No really, look at them! I've got plenty of friends that love it but I don't get the appeal... like, at all.

Seriously, is A&E surprised that somebody from that clan would have those kinds of views? Seriously?

Yep...you think it's icky so that makes it bad. Isn't it amazing that nobody ever mentions girl-on-girl action being an abomination? Oh, right...I forgot, that's hot.

The guy's perfectly entitled to his opinions. And he's got a right to express them. But he doesn't have a right to damage his employer's product (Duck Dynasty) when he's representing them (or does anybody actually think that GQ would interview him if he weren't on TV?). And he's not immune from the consequences of his free speech.

This is a simple case of an idiot who didn't know when to keep his mouth shut.

No, possessing values is not unacceptable. Being a fucking bigot is what's unacceptable. Trying to deny rights to people or treat them like second class citizens because some ancient book that is full of contradictions, and some downright reprehensible laws told you that you should is what's unacceptable.

Equal rights for all is the first step towards totalitarianism? Um, pretty much the exact opposite. And where the hell do you get that Congress is anti-Christian? Christians are a huge majority within this country and within the government. That's the reason why the march towards marriage equality has been such an uphill battle.

The sponsors of his television show do not agree. Thus he lost his sweet gig for a while.

Possessing and voicing traditional family values, much which are based in religion is considered unacceptable in Obama's America.
It's not Obama's America. It's all of ours.

But advocating for the despicable act of two men engaging in the vile act of anal sex is not.
Tolerance is not advocacy.

Welcome to Obama's America.
America is all of ours.

“Political correctness” is the first tool of all totalitarian societies and we are witnessing it first hand.
Poor little bigots getting called out on their bigotry makes them sad, Waugh fucking waugh.

Living Christian faith out loud makes Hollywood and the DC/NY pundits uncomfortable.
Living a Christian life means not judging others and tending to ones own sins ahead of the supposed sins of others.

Having anti-Christians with pro-homosexual proclivities in the current Whitehouse and Congress was bound to hit head-on with the majority of Americans sometime.
Anti-Christians? WTF are you ranting about?

Might as well be now. The Robertson's will come out winners in this situation.
Only if obscurity is a win.

Let's pretend for a second that A&E was a retail business. They sell a good that they want the public to buy. If one of their employees started saying things out loud that offended (or had the potential to offend) A&E's consumers, than A&E as a company would have every right to fire that employee.

To pretend this situation is any different because Robertson is a minor celebrity is completely ignoring the heart of the matter.

Everyone loves lesbians!

You really doesn't seem to understand how the government and business work.

That too. Though in A&E's defense, they only had a problem with Phil's faith once Phil decided to talk about how disgusting and bestial gay people are, though he doesn't judge, you know.

The way I see it is He said what a lot of people think and are too scared to say.

The real kicker is that A&E KNEW he and his family were Christians. It was NO secret what they believed. So knowing that, A&E looks even worse doing what they did. So, they know they believe something but they better dare not vocalize it or they are in "trouble"? From what I know about this family, I doubt this massive onslaught by the left really affects them much. I bet they could care less. Especially when they've received a huge outpouring of support across the nation today.

Personally, I prefer not to judge people or question their sexual proclivities or what activities they decide to do with a consenting partner in privacy.

I also prefer not to decide on my own what a supernatural being will do with them when they shuffle off this mortal coil. Maybe God WILL say, "This is no place for you!" when they get to the pearly gates. Not for me to say. Nor is it for ANYONE to say. I don't think anyone gets to decide what God gets to or wants to do, nor do I think anyone can claim to know what God really wants or will do considering we cannot even decide what version or interpretation of The Bible is correct.

How about we let people do whatever they want, so long as it doesn't harm others, and let God sort it out later?

Or how about we stop worrying about what a supernatural being that may or may not exist wants and just live our damn lives?

What difference does it make that this Duck Dynasty guy doesn't understand anal sex? I don't understand it either but I'm not about to tell people not do it and go for the vag instead. I don't understand the concept of doing fatties but, hey, I'm not going to tell people to sleep with slimmer people instead. Sleep with whomever you want, it doesn't impact my life. If everyone is consenting -and is of an age where they can consent and is of sexual maturity- then so the fuck what?

It has nothing to do with Obama, Liberalism or whatever.

At one point in time mixed-race marriages/couplings were considered an abomination against God. Somehow we got past that, I think we'll get past this "no gays marrying/fucking!" idea too.

A minor celebrity? It's been a number 1 rated cable show. That's why this story is national.

That too. Though in A&E's defense, they only had a problem with Phil's faith once Phil decided to talk about how disgusting and bestial gay people are, though he doesn't judge, you know.

Oh, I didn't mean to imply A&E had an issue with his (or the family's) religion - that's been a pretty major part of it from what I understand.

The way I see it is He said what a lot of people think and are too scared to say.

Phil Robertson is God? Don't blaspheme.

No, actually, A&E looks like a tolerant, even handed employer. They had nothing against Phil's religion, or the family's religion. They knew about it. There's nothing wrong with being a Christian. What Phil did, however, was make a judgment against a specific group of people based on ignorance, and those statements were bigoted in nature.

Having a religion does not excuse you from the consequences of your words or actions. Saying "black people should be happy as slaves" would not save you from backlash simply because you claim to follow Jesus, nor should it.

See, A&E will still take a lot of heat for this, whether in the right or not, because Phil Richards decided that he was going to talk about the people he found disgusting and bestial, and he did it while being closely associated with A&E. He dragged them into this, and so they have every right to defend their reputation.

So it blew up in A&E's face? It still doesn't excuse hate mongering by this guy. I really hope there's a God on the other side because I think you "Christians" are in for one hell of a shock when your judgement day comes.
