The following will sound anywhere from absurd to crazy. For a little more than decade now I have been sketching and drafting the new generation of Star Trek Universe star ships. I have well over 200 at this point overall, with approximately 50 I desire to move to 3D modelling. However this is just the beginning of my Star Trek Journey, as a life long Trek Fan I have like all of you dealt with the massive holes, incongruities, and general canon chaos at times. It bugged me so much, as I started creating more and star ships a narrative begin to grow within my art. Pretty soon that narrative became a timeline for the 25th century,a timeline that meticulously works to weave the patchwork together, of both the past, present, and future of Star Trek within its many iterations.
Once I had all this work done, I realized I not only had the making of one series, but I had actually created a framework for 3-4 long running series. Now I had done all this prior to Star Trek Picard being anything other than an idea in someones head. So, along comes Picard and wouldn't you know it. Its primary narrative happens to be one I outlined five years ago, as one of my underlying narratives. Thanks CBS! =P Currently, I have decided to finally show my work to the world. However, with the amount of work I have done and would need to do is a daunting task, when your time is split elsewhere as well. So part of coming forward it to begin to network and make friends, with those that are interested in what I have done, and would like to do with this labor of love.
Like I said there is a lot so here is a brief list of my work broken down. Please keep in mind all artwork is sketch or technical drafting on velum. Yes, I'm older and old school trained and one of my primary desires it to see my work become fully 3D rendered.
1. The "Reconstruction Timeline":
The tone/direction post Dominion needed to be addressed, so I did just that. The Federation goes through a true restructuring, with logical, rational, appropriation of resources to ensure no threat such as the Dominion or Borg can ever lay waste to the people of the Federation or the ranks of Star Fleet again. The complacency, and bureaucracy which hindered and allowed erosion of the "Federation Utopia", is not allowed to fester in the shadows anymore. Also the hypocrisy created by the a for mentioned being allowed to grow, and the mechanisms that caused it are addressed. MOST before my shows take place, so as the shows progress you will see the after effect of those changes as time progresses.
Federation changes:
* Federation membership/leadership reconstruction, where before there were members, and non members with specific negotiated interaction needed between Federation and non Federation sources, I have added some distinct and logical new categories. The reason for this is it more realistically allows for socio-cultural diversity and independence for alien races which may not be of the desires to be in the rigidity of the Federation of old. This also allows for members to set a certain level of outward dedication toward the Federation, and not be allowed to "ride the coat tails" without pulling your weight as a FULL Federation member.
* A reinvestment in the Education, Arts, Travel, and lives of Federation citizens. Including: Federation created and operated (Non Starfleet) higher education system designed around the sciences, especially medical technology, and theoretical development. This ideological change also allows the Federation to start building closer ties with private groups that tended to stay away from dealing with Star Fleet directly, because in the past that is typically all they had. And yes this also creates a potential source of conflict within my story line on purpose.
* A lot of old faces, and a lot of new faces. Post reconstruction, allows several old Federation races to drift away from being at the center of Federation politics, and also allows for a lot of "new blood" to step forward. This allows me to introduce some new races designed to represent not only the changes within the Federation, but also deal with current socio-political contexts.
* Voyager's Secrets Unraveled: Oh come on you didn't think I wasn't going to not run with all those loose strings? Yeap I actually did it. I went through all of Voyager and sifted out tons of tech, and knowledge, and pulled a lot of them together COHESIVELY. Also, why we are on Tech all that scrap from the Dominion Wars does serve as one of the "Dominos" leading to the Great War at the end of my timeline. One that was foretold in the Time Wars arc from Enterprise. I did my best to pull as many of the loose string together as I could. It certainly wasn't easy. And that leads into Sec. 31...
* Sec. 31 - I am keeping this part too myself for now. Why? Because I have developed a WHOLE SERIES around Star Fleet Intelligence and what amounts to an internal shadow war against Sec. 31 in the end. This show is ADULT. It is dirty, messy, gritty, real, erotic, and defiantly NOT for prime time. Multiple main leads and heavy beginning cast because, Star Fleet Intelligence agents rarely die of old age... Obviously being a show, this all is key to my larger story arc.
*Federation Civilian Fleet - Has anyone noticed that for as large as the Federation is, we never really see any kind of mass transit infrastructure? Oh sure the writers have thrown us little patchwork explanations, but frankly the overall non Star Fleet flow of people and goods has never been dealt with, and this is actually one way to cause a large "Republic" to degrade is lack of actual physical intermixing and flow to keep a Republic cohesive not at an upper bureaucratic level but at a base level. The issues with colonizing planets, and some of the dialogue from Star Trek Picard supports my premise of this. So I took care of it. Part of the reconstruction is to reconnect the old Federation and provide a conduit for new Federation members to co-mingle *cough Globalization*. I created the Federation Civilian Transit Fleet. I have 4 ship designs of varying sizes, which are elegantly simple and lightly armed, and toward the end of long story arc become key players. Also yes, I not only use the new conduit system, I build on it, to bring it to a true fully functional, logical, and rational working system.
* A True Civil Defense System: Part of the restructure, creates a permanent Federation wide defense structure including the following:
- All new up to date and Federation maintained global/system defense systems (sketches, I keep changing my mind, LOL)
- A new network of star bases for both Star Fleet and Federation Civilians ( I have designed several new star bases, that are idealized for Federation mass production)
- A subspace based warp signature detection and tracking system along and inside Federation borders (the majority of which is kept very secret)
- A conduit system complete with designed static conduit gate system, which allows for rapid response to any emergency situation
- Finally the "Federation Guard" is created as an independent fleet that works in a united effort with Star Fleet to protect all Federation citizens and allies if needed.
* "Federation Guard": Yes I know this will be controversial to many Star Trek fans, but the fact of the matter is that Star Fleet has always existed as a dichotomy. One one hand they are not a military force by design per se, but can galvanize to become one in times of great threat. Sorry, but the Dominion, Borg, and, Well the list goes on of opposition forces that have killed millions upon millions of Federation civilians because the Federation did not have a "Sharp enough sword, and thick enough shield" to properly up hold its oath to the people of the Federation. So I created a rational, logical solution to the issue. A fleet of fast smaller, heavily armed, and armored ships based upon the success and valuable tactical knowledge learned from the development of the old Defiant NX Class. In total I have narrowed it down to a 6 ship fleet design (4 with multiple variants), from over 2 dozen original idea sketches. And yes, the controversy this causes, as well as its potential mishandling are thoroughly examined, and of course play a key role in my story arc.
STAR FLEET SHIPS:
After filling 2 sketch books I started narrowing my focus more, Currently, I have about 3 dozen designs I would like to see brought to life in 3D design. By the numbers you can see I have diversified the fleet better. I have created a combination of very specialized science vessels, combined with long tour exploratory, Engineering corp, runabouts, and of course the larger fleet command type vessels, and few truly unique innovative designs never before seen.
Other Races Star ships:
By even listing these I kind give away my story arc but hey..
- a dozen totally new Klingon ships and more
- four new Gorn ships
- I am sure you have all wondered who really created the Borg? And if so what cool ships would they have developed over eons??? Of course I believe we may have already seen a glimpse of them in Star Trek Picard?
So there you have it. A have purposely been vague in some areas, for various reasons, but there is a whole lot more. This is a very long post so I will be adding some pictures of my drawings in a following post to this one.
What do I want to accomplish with this? Simple, there are a lot of talented Star Trek fans with unique talents. I am looking for a few of those who are interested enough in my work to help me take it to another level, and beyond.
