A Bit of Fun

You can't have too many of Eric's Enterprises in any case. :D
You are VERY kind! Thank you!
Eric, what is your personal opinion of the TMP Refit btw? Do you like it designwise or is it a bit too much with all the details etc?
Hm. This all depends upon when you ask me (what age I am at the time) and what details I'm thinking about.

The movie Enterprises are all masterful sets of details. And I believe that those models fulfill what the movie makers wanted for each of the movies.

However, they are not what I wanted. I would have wanted to keep the warp engine lights as were on the original model. If you want to add more detail because it would be seen on movie screens around the world, okay, but don't get rid of the idea behind the aesthetic that set the model/ship in the first place. Most details should be on the inside. Keep the lights in the warp engines. Man, the original model is a BEAUTY! Then again, that's just my take.

What are your thoughts?

You know which ship is my favorite, and she’s your gal too. (Makes sense, considering you and I have spent the better part of twenty person-years modeling the gray beastie!)

So glad to see you back on here Eric.

I very much like the original Enterprise, it was at the time quite unique when it comes to shape and the way it as shown on screen despite all the limitations, over the years people here on the board and elsewhere, Vektor for example, have made versions which are also detail wise really up there.
As for the refit, I always thought that it was a sort of visual reboot and a everything goes model with the details and the Aztec pattern and so on, I think it is a very beautiful design and I really like that one as well.
I don't think one is "better" than the other version, I see them both as fitting to the aesthetics they were going for, the TOS Enterprise for the TOS era and the TMP refit for the movie era.
Of course the TOS version is the original and the starting point of everything that came after it which makes it in any case special.
As for why the aesthetics changed, it is simply what happens, same with real life things like cars, I guess with TMP they wanted to have looks that were modern at that time.

As you stated, it makes sense! LOL!

I never left, I just wasn't posting as much. I keep checking in on a daily basis. But I also wasn't making many pictures. Man, I've still got some hill to climb before I'm "back to normal" (I suppose that's the best phrase ...). Thank you, my friend. I'm very please to see you still here as well!

Yep. I remember going through the coming of the first movie. I kept reading (both then and after) about the ideas behind the design changes for the movie. It was interesting to watch at the time, that is for certain.
