A 3D art question

There are those who post here that have 3D skillz and know how WAY beyond me, so I thought I'd ask.

I have an object that when I rotate it, the X&Z axis do not stay at 90degree opposition to each other, they shift.
Here's a visual:

I have Wings3D (current), 3ds Max 9 and am using the props in Daz.

How can I fix this? And in a related question, how can I reset the rotational center axis of an object?

It looks like each of the axes are fixed to the item, not a global 'up/down'. This way you can always set it back to 0/0/0 rotation and it will be back exactly the way it was when you first brought it in. If the axes reset every time you rotated it around, it would be impossible to get it back exactly to its default rotation. They don't look quite right, admittedly, but I don't use the program so I couldn't tell you for sure what is up in this particular case. Sorry.
