850 episodes of Trek in. Will we live to see 1,000???

So as of the beginning of 2023, there has been 850 episodes of Star Trek, counting both the original animated series (which often isn't cited as canon), and Short Treks (which are shorter than typical TV episodes).

This season of Picard will bring that up to 860, and with three other series (Discovery, Strange New Worlds, Lower Decks) also continuing, it seems likely that we'll celebrate a thousandth episode sometime in the near future.

Between that and the 60th anniversary in 3 years, do you think there'll be any special stops the folks at the top will pull out?

Yeah, we've had 144 episodes in the past four and a half years, and that's with a pandemic that temporarily caused the entire entertainment industry to essentially shut down for close to a year. Getting another 150 episodes within our lifetimes sure seems super easy, barely an inconvenience to me.

If they don't have a replacement for PIC ready in 2024, they can go from five series with 10 episodes each to four series with 13 episodes each. They'll find a way to cover the year, if that's still their goal.

If not, then it's time to count down instead of up: The amount of content would be shrinking instead of growing. I've said in the past that if I thought this, I would say so.

Prodigy was a pretty long season. I don't know how long Season 2 is going to be, but weren't they given a 40 episode order and 20 of them already aired?

S1 was 20 episodes split into 10-episode halves.

I have no idea how long S2 will be, but it's probably going to be 20. Hopefully it's not broken up.

We are closer to 1,000 than you think.

TOS - 80
TAS - 22
TNG - 178
DS9 - 176
VGR - 172
ENT - 98
DIS - 55
LD - 30
PRO - 20
PIC - 20
SNW - 10

That's 861 episodes. If we count SHORT TREKS (which there is debate on), those 10 shorts make the total 871.

When DS9 was running concurrently with TNG and VGR, we were getting 52 episodes a year. (Except for the first seasons of DS9 and VGR and VGR's 3rd, which was 46, 46, and 48 respectively. Production wise.)

We are getting basically 50 per year now (with 10 episode seasons, for the most part.) We'll hit 1,000 in 2026.

My question is this: will we get a special, like what DOCTOR WHO does?
