80 years later -- Amelia Earhart... a POW?

That photo was originally published in 1935 in a Japanese travel guide. The pictured people are participants in a schooner race.

Wow... man, that's an incredible find. Thanks so much for posting this.

History Channel seems to have become a conspiracy nutter feed now. I talked to someone else about this and they said they saw some ridiculous "aliens are real" kind of program on that channel. Crap. Another thing you can't trust....

Heh, History Channel. As soon as I heard they were showing this, I figured there should be a large amount of skepticism attached to it.

You just now heard of this? Giorgio Tsoukalos and "Ancient Aliens" has provided many many hours of fun and amusement, for the last eight years.

I have been familiar with the Tsoukalos meme of "Because... aliens."

But didn't actually know the full origin (never bothered to look into it). Haven't watched the History Channel for about a decade, until recently. Anyway, thanks for connecting the dots. ;)
That guy reminds me so much of a Centauri from Babylon 5.

The most compelling theory is a pair of bodies found on one of the islands in the area she disappeared. They landed when they ran out of fuel and basically starved to death. Or were killed by Apes from the future. Or Covfefe.

Perhaps eaten by coconut crabs on Nikumaroro:

Researchers carried out an experiment to validate whether the coconut crabs had a part in her demise.
Back in 2007, they used a small pig carcass to assess what the coconut crabs might have done. The bones were removed very quickly and scattered...

They look cuter on Dragonball Z--but the real thing is nothing to play with
