$76.5 million

I've already posted this in 2 other threads do we need a 3rd one  but hell yes 76.5

Very good.

A little OT: I hate hate hate how Variety writes their articles, those ridiculous abbreviations: aud. rev. sesh. soph. Jeeeeesus.

So are those figures Thursday, Friday, and Saturday only -- with Sunday yet to come? It seems like those are the whole weekend figures. This is still Sunday, isn't it? ;)

[Edit: ^Last 2 posts beat me to it. Things are posting fast here.]

So that 76.5 million doesn't include an estimate for today (Sunday), right? It's just Thursday night through last night? Also, what is up with all the abbreviations in the Variety article. Are they that lazy and unprofessional? It's really distracting; just peeves me. "Cuming"?! (Accumulating?) That means something else where I CUM from.

This estimate is Thursday through Sunday, including $4 million on Thursday. The opening weekend proper (FSS) is $72.5 million, and that does include today.

It's normal for Sunday estimates to be in very early, and they're normally very accurate.

76.5 is very good, the actuals might be a little lower, but there is no doubt about it. Star Trek is a box office success!

That is excellent news!! Star Trek XII (or 2011) should definitely happen!
(I hate the way Variety writes it's articles. It's worse than l33t speak)

4 day weekend Thursday has to be added into the OW figures because the earlier opening at 7pm took friday money so would be unfair to not count it. Just read a nice article on the international weekend...

International box office estimates aren't officially in yet, but rumors are that Trek is close to Wolverine's $72 million, which would be unprecedented for the franchise, and a sign that this Trek is a bona fide hit for Paramount.

I wonder how close, I would love anything above $50 million IMO.

I'm pleasantly impressed with $76.5m. Not mind blowing numbers but much better than the industry estimates of $60m. Blew away other reboots like Batman Begins $48.7m and Superman Returns $52.5m.

Which makes it kinda mind-blowing to me. Let's remember we're talking about Star Trek here, not Star Wars or superhero stuff.

Do I smell sequel?? I can't wait!

The last time I was this jazzed about seeing a sequel immediately after a film was Batman Begins. And look how awesome that turned out? :)

That's close to twice as much as Nemesis earned by the time it closed. Wow!

STAR TREK LIVES!
