$76.5 million

little OT and I have contacted a mod about this but since I don't want to go into the thread that pissed me off cause spoilers...

Please people thread titles word them carefully some people don't see the movie till next week. A major bit has been spoiled for me thank you "overbound", why don't you pm me the ending to top it off.

Why would you even hang around a Star Trek XI thread if you care about being spoiled?

I am going in the forum section to look at the box office threads only I didn't go into his thread or any others. I expect the rules of thread titles to be followed but what do ya know hes a cadet shocking he didn't read any rules when joining .

I should not have to stay out of the $$$ threads because other people can't watch there titles, a little unfair on me and others who wish to talk about these subjects. Anyway I contacted a mod but incase it took him/her a while to do anything I just wanted to remind anyone else planning on putting up future threads and only way was to post in threads I go in and like I said am only in $$$ threads.

I HOPE it beats Angels and Demons next week. :klingon:

This brings up a couple of comments worth mentioning.

The first has already been mentioned that this is not a 3 day total, it's a 4 day total. Still a very good opening.

However, I noticed something about the articles that hasn't been mentioned. These are not U.S. only box office numbers. Has anybody heard those numbers anywhere?

Beyond that, it will be interesting to see how it holds up over time. There is a lot of competition for sci-fi and fantasy dollars this summer. Wolverine lost nearly 2/3 of it's box over the course of a week.

If Trek follows suit that puts them right around the between $90m and $100m for the two week period. Probably a bit less for the U.S. only numbers.

With Angels & Demons, Terminator and Transformers all competing for the same dollars, it will be interesting to see how much money it racks up after this week, especially considering the fact that, judging from other forums I've been in a lot of Trek fans have ALREADY seen it twice.

I'm just sayin...I wouldn't allow my enjoyment of Star Trek XI to be possibly compromised by visiting a forum where I know that people often don't follow the rules. This is the Internet, after all.

it's good to see the film has brought in many, many more people into theatres to become acquainted with the franchise. i look forward to the sequel.

Be interesting to see next weekend. I like many can't get there till then due to Mother's Day activities. Looking, forward, I like this movie, it sounds exciting....

Yes, We all knew that this flick was the franchise's last chance to make a comeback w/out disappearing for 20 years and against all odds ONE HELLUVA comeback it is.Trek 11 easily rejuvenates the franchise for anoher 10 years or so.

I thought the U.S box office was really North America Box office so Canada as well ??? Also The T-4 weekend should be soften with memorial day right ? so thats a boost for Star Trek.

That's a very good point--lots of people going to the theaters then--M-F.

School's out for summer. Long as Trek can survive until then with legs, who knows what'll happen?

Here's a cool little fact:

That's the second-best opening of 2009 (after X-Men Origins: Wolverine's $85.1 mil last weekend), and it includes a whopping $8.2 mil earned in IMAX showings, a new one-weekend record for the large format (beating The Dark Knight's $6.3 mil).

Well, I have to say the filmmakers did a good job in making a movie adaptation(or reboot) that satisfies both target audiences, the Star Trek fanbase and the general audience.

I'm sort of stuck in the middle;), I'm a fan of the franchise but not to the point of knowing 70% of Star Trek trivia, in fact I know more trivia about Dr. Who than Star Trek and I've only got into Dr.Who in 2007 while I've started Star Trek with the animated series and TNG during the 90's.

Yeah, the domestic box office is actually U.S. and Canada. I think T4 is going to be very successful, but you're right that the level of movie attendance over Memorial Day weekend is so high that Star Trek should be able to hold up okay even in the face of T4 opening.

Wow--that's fantastic. Hope it continues another week, since IMAX said only a 2 week run, right?

Although with the right numbers, that could change.
