7 Years Since the Intersection [Starship Exeter]

OTD 7 years ago the full Starship Exeter: "The Tressaurian Intersection" fanfilm was finally released. Since that time—and sans any love from the sites which heavily promoted New Voyages and Continues—it's exceeded 1.16 million views to date, and the viewership remains steady and has yet to go down.

Tonight several of us who saw it to the finish line will be having a Zoom toast to its completion, and I'll share some suitable and family friendly screen grabs and maybe a vid clip.

It's one of my favourites, and I can reveal that it does happen that I will play it in background on my laptop when I do work that doesn't require my full concentration.
That high praise, its combination of dialogue, pacing and music is just as stimulating as some of my favourite music

Thanks guys. A few of us did do a Zoom last night but we got a late start and I forgot to grab screenshots (doh). It was director Scott Cummins, and Post-Production Supervisor Dave Weiberg and Post Production Producer me. We toasted finishing the show and talked about the early days of pre-production and spoke frankly about mistakes that were made, challenges with the script, and what we learned making the damned thing.

Scott and I have talked about recording a call all about post-production on the show.

Once again ran across this BTS photo from the final Inserts pickup for TTI, w/ @Mark 2000 and @Ryan Thomas Riddle goofing around. Good times!

Some sad news that you might have seen if you are on the Starship Exeter group on Facebook. But Michael Buford, who played Commander Cutty in both Exeter films, has passed away. I’d spoken to him a few months ago and knew he’d had some serious health crises, but hoped he’d be with us longer.

We had never met in person but we had several lengthy fun conversations on the phone over the years, and I joked for quite a long time he was my big Bromance. Sweet guy. Sorry that he’s gone.

Wasn’t in Watchmen that Alan Moore said that there are faces you don’t see much of any more…as far as I’m concerned he…and your work Maurice…**ARE** TOS.

Starship Exeter was my first introduction into fan films, and it is the one that seemed to capture the spirit and intent of Star Trek, for me. (Obviously, as evidenced on these boards, ST can mean all things to all people.)
When I was a child and heard live music for the first time, I was inspired to become a musician, and learned several along the way. I felt very much the same way when I first saw Starship Exeter. I was absolutely giddy at the possibilities a project like this presented. Unlike guitar, drums and piano though, I have discovered that making a fan film is infinitely harder. Kudos to anyone that undertakes such an endeavor, and even more for making it to the finish line.
When TTI came out, I felt that same vibe as The Savage Empire, only more so. I got the sense that a lot of lessons had been learned along the way. It is regrettable that I don't have George Harrison money, who financed 'Life of Brian' for the simple fact he "want(ed) to see the film." I'd have happily forked over a truckload of cash just to see some more adventures.
RIP to Michael Buford, who I thought gave a striking everyman balance to Quincy's darker persona.
My thanks to all of you who were involved in the making of Starship Exeter.

I was giddy too, filming my cameo scene for "The Savage Empire" in Sydney, Australia, and posting it off to Jimm. Still seems like a dream.

Agree! His scenes made me feel like I actually knew him. RIP, Michael.

Have the brothers completely moved on, or they sometimes consider a return in any way?

Stick a fork in them; they're done. And without Michael Buford it wouldn't be the same.

I hadn't realised Mr Buford had passed away. Really sad to hear. Condolences to his family and friends.
