I still have a sneaky feeling from the way the Doctor responded to the news that River = Melody that She is also his Mum. "How do I look?" And there's a neat mid-way solution to the thing about him being 'half-human'. And it would explain why she knows his name.
And if it turned out that she was his mum.... some Amy/Doctor and/or River/Doctor shipping fanfic writers would squick, but some... would squee. Dirty buggers.

:D

Forget it, ITL... it's Gallifreytown! :p

So if River was the Doctor's Mom, than Amy would be the grandmother? Is this what was meant by Wibbly Wobbly Timey Whimy? Ewwww ;)

Well one thing makes sense now, and that's why River kept saying everything would change when he knew, why River got so upset at that kiss.

She loves him in a non-platonic way, and I think because that's how the future appeared to him, he found himself responding to her in that way, but now he knows the truth I think that's going to shift, and he'll start to think of himself less as her husband, and more as a god parent, that's why she dreaded the day he found out the truth, because until then she could indulge her fantasy of what they could be.

That's my take anyway, what do people think? It'll be very interesting to see what the dynamic is the next time they meet.

Meanwhile, has anyone watched Confidential? There's an interview with Alex Kingston about the cot and the name on the cot. She seems to suggest it has a bigger part to play... that it's not just baby River and The Doctor who've been in it.
I saw that, and I don't think she knows either - she's speculating over the same thing that we saw. There were at least two writings (Amy twice looking at the wrong place, different writings each time), and they are possibly different names or whatever. I'm sure that The Doctor is not the only baby that slept in the cot, and that it's possible that he didn't and lied, but I don't think there's an important part of the story in it.

Never mind.

Explain yourself! Got me wondering, now...

:D
He is making an humorous refernce to the movie Chinatown, with that Mr Nicholson person.

I highly doubt that they would go down that route. After all the flirting, innuendos, and the kiss, it would be about 10 levels of ick beyond anything Luke and Leia did!

What I can see is that through some wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey stuff, that she is the Doctor's once and future wife. What I mean by that is that she is Susan's grandmother. Not sure exactly how they'd explain that, but if River is a human/time-lord, which seems likely, then maybe she somehow ends up being the mother of Susan's father or mother. Susan is something that they've never really touched on in the new series, and when they do skirt around the issue, it's always met with what seems to be sadness and regret. Maybe he found Susan somewhere on one of his early, unseen adventures and figured out that she was a direct relation, but never really knew where she came from?

I'm going to have to review that scene to see if I can detect what the good RevD saw. She's pretty good on these kind of things. However.... what I did notice was a subtle change in Amy's facial expression at the news.....

I really doubt that we are suppose to take from this that River is the Doctor's mum!

then maybe she somehow ends up being the mother of Susan's father or mother.

But how would that work? He only met her in his 10th regeneration onwards

Maybe he found Susan somewhere on one of his early, unseen adventures and figured out that she was a direct relation, but never really knew where she came from?

There have been all those sorts of weird fan theories about Susan but the original intent and the way it was played by the actors is as it appears - Grandfather and Grand-daughter. One of the reasons certain elements prefer that reading is that they like to think the Doctor is an asexual being...

It occurred to me too before the big reveal. Then I dismissed it because from the first time River appeared, the hint that she and the Doctor are lovers is very clear. Furthermore it would serve no purpose other than to revolt the paying public and I'm not the only one who would be revolted.

I was definitely left feeling underwhelmed after this episode, mainly due to how incomplete the story feels. I don't think it could have sustained a two parter but much like a book being adapted into a movie, it felt like they'd cut bits out, in order to tell the main plot, that would have added necessary depth.

I'm not saying otherwise. It just seems to me that while we're dealing with baby cribs, the Doctor's lover/wife/whatever, and other relations, that it seems obvious to tie it in with the one relation of his that we know we've seen on screen.
