68 years since Pearl Harbor attack

Bloodwhiner

Commodore

Today marks the 68th anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.

This is still an important day to my generation but I wonder how it stacks up to 911 in the minds of younger people.

The 911 attacks were cited as a "New Day of Infamy" immediately afterwards, has that tag held up?

Well, I'm a Yankees fan and I still don't trust Hideki Matsui.

I hate the Yankees but that's just wrong right there.

Well, we'll always have V.J. Day. at least in Rhode Island....;)

The difference between Pear Harbor and 9/11 is that 9/11 was an attack on actual American soil, while Pearl Harbor was an attack on an American military base in a place that would not be a state for another 18 years. So, any comparison between the two is pointless.

And that's not even taking into account that one was an attack on a US military installation by a foreign power, and other was an attack on civilians carried out by terrorists.

9/11 continues to shape our domestic and foreign policy, though.

Excuse me Robert Maxwell, but that's man-made disaster. NOT terrorist attack. ;)

The Terrorist Attacks of 2001 were an attack on civilians and the government. The Pentagon was also hit, and Congress was targeted. Both those attacks and Pear Harbor provoked war, of different sorts. Both were horrible and it's pretty useless to compare them.

As far as "Days of Infamy" go, both qualify.
