Im not a parent either, I'm too young to be one (willingly). I can see where if you had a kid who could do it on their own, no problems, that their parents would be ok to sleep, however, if your kid is THAT dumb, what gives the parents the idea that it's ok? If anyone should know what their kid is capable of, its the parents, and if they don't, well, they obviously dont know their own kids.

There's a lot of potential in the report that the matter is still under investigation. It may be relevant from threat perspective that the community is in a relatively lightly populated area to the SE of George Washington's Mt Vernon home. I'm seeing plenty of forest and open fields in the satellite views.

In some areas parents and siblings from different families take terms watching the elementary kids waiting for the morning bus. I wouldn't rule out the person whose turn it was assuming the "junior driver" was being kept home due to a minor illness.

Sometimes such prompt news reports can't be reporting all the relevant factors. There may also be privacy issues during and after government protective agencies' investigation of possible gaps in the supervision of minors.

There are also some "catch 22" factors with child care. There are some occasional cases of young children wandering the streets. Parents can't be awake 24 hours a day to make sure their children remain in their beds. While children aren't as experienced as adults they are sometimes remarkably clever and one thing that will lead to an abuse charge is making it physically impossible for them to escape the house (for fire evacuation purposes) with things like padlocks or double cylinder deadbolts (without nearby keys).

When my son waa very little (about two and a half) he got out the house sometime between my husband leaving for work at 6am and myself getting out of bed at about 7am. I had a little baby at the time who was still having night-feeds.

When I got up I was feeling pleased that my 2 1/2year old had slept in as he was usually awake about 5.30am. I started feeding the baby hoping that Adam would stay asleep until the baby was feed. Otherwise I would have to try and make Adam's breakfast and feed the baby at the same time.

I saw a policeman coming down the drive and thought "Oh, no Adam". He wasn't asleep at all but has somehow got out of the house. He was found by a person driving past and he was stark naked at the time. The policeman and I found his pyjamas on the neighbour's lawn. It was in the middle of winter so I have no idea why he stripped off. The policeman was cool about the whole thing and I never got into any sort of trouble over it.

I suspect that my husband might not have closed the door properly behind him when he left.

it's not a question of "worry", it's a question of being present.

if my kid's six years old and I am home, I want to see him off at the schoolbus. it only takes a few minutes, but at least I know my kid's off to school.

When I missed the bus, I didn't go to school.
