51 Hours Left to Live

Cmdr Shepard

Lieutenant Junior Grade
Red Shirt
I saw this thread on Facepunch and found it interesting, so now I'm sharing it. A man is going to commit suicide in 51 hours, well actually about 34 hours now, and he's online answering questions about his life, his disease, assisted suicide, and various other things, before he pulls the plug on himself.

The man, known as 'Lucidending' on Reddit is suffering from an incurable form of cancer and is in a lot of pain, and so he wants to just end his suffering now with dignity. He lives in Oregon, where it is legal to kill yourself under certain circumstances, and his doctor is setting things up so all he has to do is push a button and he'll be injected with drugs that will kill him.

I do find it a bit... odd (for want of a better word) that he wants to spend the last few hours online answering questions.

I suppose I can understand the reason for it (pro-euthanasia), but I know for myself that if I am ever in pain that last thing I can face doing is using my computer. If I were in enough pain that I wanted to die, I'd imagine those feelings to be stronger still.

^ I think this is the answer to your confusion:

Question:
Other than answering our questions, what are you going to spend your last hours doing? And most of all, good luck, my friend. May you have the peace you deserve.

Reply:
I'm going to live. This is as close to travel and meeting new people as I can get now. I'm sorry if that sounds dumb but this is my world tour

Oh come on, you'd be here posting, admit it. :)

Actually, many states have technically made suicide illegal. It isn't prosecutable of course, but it isn't legal.

I actually live in Oregon. I wonder if it's somebody I know... probably not. But even if I was on the verge of death, I don't think I'd spread my life all over the Internet for everybody to see. It's not that I've done anything I'd be horribly ashamed of, it's just that I don't want everybody to know. I'd ask people I've really pissed off or done harm to to come in so that I could sincerely apologize to them.
